My first memory of the museum, was the trench exhibit. Think I was about 12/13, so it was around 94/95. The audio of shooting and artillery were immersive. The smell of it is still with me now, smelt like chamomile tea and rubber bands😂 I try to come down every Remembrance Sunday, as I live around the corner.

I've noticed people always tap tanks with their fist. Is it; 1. To see if they can dent it? 2. To check it's real metal and not a faux tank made from mdf? 3. To see if the hatch opens and a WW2 soldier pops his head out, eyes blinking after 75 years inside.

Thanks for this. I've been looking for the museum that houses (what I believe was) an Argentinian field gun that we brought back from the Falklands war on my minesweeper HMS Ledbury. They took our Bofor off the front to make us non magnetic for minesweeping, then when we got to Port Stanley they choppered out one of these guns and plonked it in place of our Bofor. Thing was, it took me until the Ascension Islands on the way back home before I sussed out how to remove the breeches so we could clean and fire it. 😂. It was really good though. The gunners Yeo was a lad called Robbie. I was a WEMO known as Sly. And my boss at the time was Flash Gordon. Some happy and have to admit, because of friends I lost, sad memories. Blimey 40 years ago. Once again. Thanks for this video.

Not a field gun. An anti aircraft gun. Apologies.

Today I went for the second time to the museum. My first visit was in 1982. The WW1 section is impressive, but I was very dissapointed that there was absolutly nothing about the Falklands War. Very strange.

I went today for the first time for 2 hours after a work meeting in London. I only got through the WW1 and halfish way through the holocaust section before the security guard said it was time to leave as they were closing. This is definitely an all day thing if you really take it in. Also, bring tissues. I cried more than I thought I would

I visited this museum in 1999. Then it was fantastic, I stayed all day nearly. Now so much of the German things have been taken out. No Messerschmitts 109’s on show etc . Too modern and a real disappointment. If anyone wants to visit a fantastic museum which has the largest items from the Battle of Britain visit the Battle of Britain Museum in Hawkinge. It has Spitfires, three Hurricans outside, a Heinkel He 111 that actually flew in the Battle of Britain. One can stay there the whole day and not see and read everything.
