Probably not but I do want to do Reading. Though only through services seem to get announced there
@Parallel3953 жыл бұрын
I have a few recordings from there, the SWR and GWR North Downs trains are only announced on the specific platform the train departs from and volume is quiet. Reading is managed by Network Rail but I think GWR manage the CIS as it has GWR Anne recordings

@@Parallel395 Yes Network Rail took over Reading when they started redevelopment, GWR manages the CIS at Reading same with Bristol Temple Meads.

Shame Rodger's voice isn't used at Paddington. His voice would suit Paddington quite well, in my opinion... ...just like Phil Sayer's voice felt right at home on the concourse at Waterloo. After Phil died and once SWR took over from SWT, they removed Phil's voice leaving just Celia on her own at Waterloo. However, I think her voice was a bit too soft and gentle for Waterloo... with the vast space around the roof and the concourse, her voice would get lost in a vast echo, so you could barely make out what was being announced. With Phil's husky voice, you were able to make out what was being said in the announcements. It's such a shame that Phil and Celia have long gone from the network. They will be dearly missed, but forever part of my childhood memories on the railway. And don't get me wrong, Anne get's the job done, but her voice seems to be almost everywhere on the UK rail network these days. And she sounds a bit drab when compared to Celia's enthusiastic voice. If only Rodger's voice would be used at more stations. At least my local station has both Anne and Rodger (which once upon a time was the domain of Celia). Anne and Rodger certainly have some big boots to fill!

That's a good point regarding station echos. I think it's very important when selecting voices that their tone works with the station acoustics. I think Anne sounds reasonably clear at larger, echoey stations IMO. I'm not a huge Rodger fan but do appreciate the variety. GWR seem to prefer him alongside Anne at the former large FGW Intercity stations, or on his own at stations that have recently had CIS installed but are in residential areas. My local station has Anne, though used to have Ruth (whose voice I prefer!). I do agree that Phil and Celia sound very professional alongside each other, and they can still be heard at many Chiltern stations, although on different software.
@joeymandrews3 жыл бұрын
@@Parallel395 If only I lived near a Chiltern Railways station, then I would still be able to hear Phil and Celia. My local station is operated by SWR, and it just wasn't the same when they replaced Celia with Anne. Although I was rather chuffed that Rodger's voice is used as well. I also have a GWR station where I live, but it's unstaffed and has the bare minimum facilities. There's a help point with the familiar "next train" CIS screen, but no actual dot matrix CIS screens, no announcements, no ticket machines. Before Rodger's voice appeared at my local SWR station (and before the pandemic started), I used to travel on the Heart of Wessex Day Ranger ticket. It became a regularly weekly or fortnightly activity for me. And one of my big thrills during those trips was hearing Rodger's voice echoing in Brunel's trainshed at Bristol Temple Meads, or hearing him announce my train home at Bath Spa. And I'm also thrilled that his voice is used at Swindon (my birth town). There's just something about his voice that I find rather soothing and relaxing. Each to their own I suppose 😂

I agree that Chiltern will likely not roll out Rodger (and probably not Anne) as they use KeTech and have a different parent company. Custom ATOS TOC voices tend to stay within their TOC areas.
@NetworkX903 жыл бұрын
@@Parallel395 Considering that some chiltern stations (Dorridge, Solihull) are currently being converted to ketech, it’s likely that they won’t use atos for a while yet.
