I jumped off the tube at Tottenham Court Road, and hardly recognised the place. So much has changed in London's regeneration game. Let's hope they leave Tin Pan Alley alone! Still, to quote James Mason; "we'd be foolish to mourn it too readily". That said, I was gutted to discover that 143 Charing Cross Road has been demolished. Back in the early 1960's it had been the Freddie Mills Nite Spot. Freddie was once a household name across Britain, his mysterious death rocked the nation to its boots. Yes, I remember the old tube entrance. On the slavery issue, you may be interested to read up about Englishman Granville Sharp, an interesting story.

Hey Wayne, former world champion, I'm honoured man. Couple things stand out for me regarding Freddie's mysterious demise. Firstly, I doubt he'd have driven all the way from Denmark Hill into the West End to park up in a dark place and top himself. He'd more likely have done the deed at home, or somewhere local and secluded. Secondly, there were no fingerprints on the rifle in the car, and Freddie wasn't wearing gloves, that's a red flag. Also, the position of the rifle in the car raises suspicions. It's placed perfectly upright, next to him. He couldn't possibly have placed it there himself. I've seen the mortuary pics and, to me, it looks like he was stabbed in the right eye with a stiletto type blade. Doorman Robert Deacon found Freddie dead but, for some reason, waited an hour before calling an ambulance. The ambulance crew turned up and, against protocol, removed Freddie's body. That's another red flag. The police initially assumed murder, but soon switched to suicide despite the lack of a weapon. The right eye thing may even be symbolic / ritualistic. There's a book called 'Jack of Jumps' by David Seabrook that probes the Freddie Mill's story in some depth. That's where I saw the mortuary pics. I don't suppose we'll ever know the truth, it's all too long ago now. One thing's for sure Freddie could fight, what a warrior he was. Same as yourself Wayne, one of Britain's finest. I'm off now to watch both Ojay Abrahams fights. I remember you sparring Ross John down the Alex in Penge. Big respects mate, daily

@@londonparticulars2968 Thanks for your kind words, you have a very good memory as i don’t remember sparring with Ross John ‘who im still in contact with on Facebook’ at all in Penge, me Ross and Danny Villilante were on the same circuit as school boys, as for the Freddie Mills story maybe your right, but i doubt he would of topped himself outside he’s kids home, a lot of people who commit suicide don’t show signs of doing it, and he was apparently in big debt!? but like you say we will probably never know and yes what a hard tough man he was, them fighting men and days are well and truly over, take care
