wow it's really been over a decade since it happened . i remember it very well cause it had spread into my hometown and sadly i was trapped in mare street at the time. here's the story from my perspective : i had just finished up in the job center and i was going to the supermarket to pick up some bread and milk before heading home. i had only just got in to the supermarket when all of a sudden the shutters were closed everyone was wondering WTH (what the hell) was going on they announced that a riot was going on outside and they wanted to keep everyone inside safe. there was panic but everybody was safe. i called my mother at home to tell her that i was going to late home she asked me where i was and i told her that i was inside the supermarket and i couldn't get home for a while but at the same time she was watching the news on tv. it was then she realised the reason why i couldn't get home. she panicked and was crying on the phone but thankfully it was over in two hours and i made it home safe but it looked like a warzone outside. HOPE IT NEVER HAPPENS AGAIN. (hopefully?????) and yes i am a hackney resident. but sadly because of the riot i had been diagnosed with PTSD and now unable to work cause i keep having recurring nightmares because of it to this day.... sorry i can't comment anymore cause it brings up very bad memories of that day.
