The Oligarchs are afraid their property will be seized, the Saudi’s are now investing at home, the Americans have better places to invest at home, the Chinese billionaires are busy making sure they stay out of sight. The newly rich Indians may be the only prospects left for the London property market…

Super rich don't care that much about petty crime when they rarely leave their rather safe bubbles in fancy neighborhoods. This is likely due to changes to the tax regime that has been causing a lot of wealthy people to leave the UK. Taxes for the wealthy, within reason, is probably a good thing for all of us. Expecting wealthy people to do good out of the goodness of their heart is just helping those who don't have morals to become wealthier.

Labour needs to introduce a £10M+ mansion tax! A 5% annual tax on the closing price can contribute to social housing....

@@trs8696 100% it would. it would stop London property being seen as a parking bay for money! Currently money is being parked into London property as a hedge to global slowdown, because this market is liquid, useful for Rogue government dictators and laundered money! Why not take advantage of it. If you can afford to buy a $30M home and leave it empty, you can afford a 5% annual tax. This is consistent with a property tax in NY and California, and some property in LA are going for 10s of millions...so it won't stop the property market at all
