5:10 Well that's a super helpful announcement to make once the passengers have boarded and the tram is already on its way!

I'm coming down to London in August to ride this, the DLR & 50 tube stations in the quickest possible time. Why? don't ask! But these videos have been invaluable in planning the challenge. Thank you!

Does the driver feel relief when he gets to go off the road and onto ordinary rail tracks? It must be scary driving among people and cars, as trams cannot stop so quickly in case an obstruction suddenly appears.
@josephholder44924 жыл бұрын
I think it would be scarier at night. That was the time when a car crashed into a tram which made it derail

Thanks for sharing videos of all tram lines. I commute to work using Wimbledon branch. (No longer used horrific Southern Railway) I never seen what the routes are like on the other side of Croydon. It looks more prettier and greener than I expected. Of course these lines are in the countryside rather than being close to London.

Wow to think I used to pull up outside East Croydon station on my bus 30 years ago. How Croydon has changed. It must have been a horrendous upheaval putting all that track in and I bet people lost their homes

How come the trams don't ring the bell when leaving the station? Is there any reason for why it's different from the trams in continental Europe?
@mikoajem6753 жыл бұрын
Not in all European countries trams ring before leaving the tram stop

Why do tram drivers close the doors before they have a proceed signal?
@leedavis666 жыл бұрын
K.o.R, the doors are on a timer. If nobody passes through them for a set number of seconds they close automatically.
@Alan-ln3ls6 жыл бұрын
Also, the proceed signal won't appear until the tram has started to move, avoiding unnecessary delays to other traffic.
@SWTransport5 жыл бұрын
19:08 How come I saw the driver press a button then he doors shut
@Alan-ln3ls5 жыл бұрын
@@SWTransport The driver closes the doors in normal operation. The timer is only needed when the tram is standing for an extended period, as at a terminus, so that the doors don't remain open letting in wind and rain.
@fetchstixRHD5 жыл бұрын
Alan: “the proceed signal won’t appear until the tram has started to move” that’s false in general. Signals often clear before the tram has started moving and even before the doors have been closed. On top of that, in many locations you can’t move from a stand without passing the signal itself...

Talk about another accident waiting to happen!I dont think the Victorians would have used old rail lines to run a tram next to a working rail line.Crazy.
@K-o-R8 жыл бұрын
How so? The two lines have no connections between them at all, and being the route of a main line means the curves are way shallower than the one where the derailment happened.
@roberthuron91604 жыл бұрын
Dumb question from an American! What lines were involved,before they were used for tram routes? I can guess,LB&SC,SECR,and maybe some remnants of tram lines which operated out of Croydon. In the US,the New York Central operated an interurban line in upstate New York,using third rail ,and overhead wire,so there are prototypes even on this side of the pond!
