You will always hear lots of different languages in London, it's not just tourists - it's a very cosmopolitan city. I like the mixture.

The River Thames is _correctly_ pronounced: 'Temz' ... We call ice cream vehicles 'vans' - ice cream vans. Yards in the UK are concrete or tarmac. Gardens are lawns and flowers. Allotments are plots of land, often rented from local councils in which 'tenants' can grow vegetables and or flowers, have a shed in which to store garden tools (or sit inside to contemplate future or past accomplishnenrs for example...!) The Horse Guards ride mostly black horses, usually geldings but also mares. The horses of The King's Troops are mostly bays (brown bodies, black manes, tails, and points - knees, hocks and tips of their ears, muzzles).

They are the only place you’ll see guns on show, the places you past are No 10 Downing Street where the PM and Chancellor of the Exchequer live, it on a park security wise to your White House ( hence the guns) The Horse Guards building is the Ministry of Defence Property, the guards are SERVING FRONT LINE soldiers, ( again hence the guns) Both places aren’t part of a Disney. Studio.

I used to drive past Bucky Palace once a week to get to a client in Westminster just past New Scotland Yard (not the new New Scotland Yard, the old New Scotland Yard) and I'll say this about the experience: It's better leading a detachment of horse guards to the palace than following them.

The black gate with the gun is the entrance to Downing Street where the Prime Minister. You used to be able to walk down the streets and have you photo taken outside number 10. The gates were erected inthe 1980s due to the threat from the IRA. Now access is restricted

A lot of us mining apprentices had a day out in London , some of us ended up in Downing Street , one ask the policeman outside the door "what would happen if we knocked on the door "; he said twenty police will be in 5 seconds , we thanked him and headed to the neatest pub 😅

The gates went up in 1989, the last time I went down there was in 1988 on a day out doing research for a college assignment. Technically it's still a public thoroughfare and has never been subject to a gating order, so the blocking could one day be challenged in court, in theory.

Urban myth I am afraid. Although owned by the government, it is, like many area of Central London, a private space. Likewise, many people don't know that Trafalgar Square is technically a public space.

Note... No one in the UK would say THE Big Ben, THE Tower bridge, THE London Bridge. They are just known as Big Ben, Tower Bridge etc

A backyard in Britain implies a rather ugly, basic paved area with limited attractiveness and a utilitarian use.... A back /front garden offers a much more promising possibility which most likely has grass, flowers, a shed, possibly a barbeque / patio area etc.

Why do you persist in adding 'The' to the name of whatever you're looking at. It's just Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Westminster Bridge . Admittedly some things are referred with the definite article such as The Houses of Parliament but most tourist attractions don't. Incidentally, Horse Guards is the historic building between Whitehall and Horse Guards Parade that you walked through to find the soldiers on horseback. The soldiers themselves, and their horses, are from the Household Cavalry and are from either The Life Guards (red tunics) or The Blues and Royals (dark blue tunics).

Typical. At the very beginning while demonstrating how little he knows about the English he bypassed Brompton Cemetary - one of the most interesting parts of SW London and tne location for countless films from Sherlock Holmes to horror movies. A gorgeous location passed without a blink. I'm adding this in real frustration at this bloke. How can you spend a fortune to visit another country and arrive having done absolutely zero advance research about your destination. Hopeless.
