Two years on, it seems very strange to see such empty stations. These last two weeks, I was in Germany, and things were about as close to pre-Covid as possible. Although the Garching-Forschungszentrum U Bahn station about 11 AM on a Sunday makes a person think it's like Covid times in Central London. Then again, on Sunday the 12th February 2023, everyone was in central Munich for the Fasching parade. Odeonsplatz and Marienplatz stations were almost to the brim that day.

A sterling effort to record so much nothingness in so many different stations. A right little historical gem. I can vouchsafe for an unnerving emptiness in the Waterloo warren. This after a three hour journey up to London on South West Trains where I was the only passenger the whole time on a nine carriage train. Just the driver, the guard and me. I thought to myself at the time that not even the Queen gets to travel in such style as she'd have had loads of flunkies. Amazing.

A great opportunity to appreciate the station architecture. Reminds me of an experience I had in college. I attended a large university that was divided into 3 campuses. The day before Thanksgiving my freshman year, the school was considered open, but all the classes were cancelled. Nobody around, just the sounds of steam pipes and mechanical equipment as I'm walking through these old corridors - absolute bliss.

As an ex-Jubilee Line driver (before ATO), it was always enjoyable to stop exactly on the mark to line all the doors up. After doing it many times per day, it didn't take long to get good at it. If a driver overshot the mark you would inform the controller of your mishap and be told to continue to the next station and apologise to your passengers (unless you were the first or last train of the day in which case there were procedures for driving backwards). Now it's all automatic with ATO - much more boring I would imagine.

Do the trains skip stations automatically or does a driver take control between these stations?
@DMC8884 жыл бұрын
connectingwings it’s full manual control all the time, with the exception of the DLR which runs a driverless system.
@connectingwings72124 жыл бұрын
@@DMC888 No it's not actually. Many (not all) tube lines run semi-automatic or ATO GoA 2 - the driver only closes the doors and presses a button for a few seconds. This system is present on the Victoria or Jubelee line for example. To the question: I wonder whether the ATO recognises a station closure and skips the station by itself (like the DLR) or if the driver drives manually through the closed stations Source: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automatic_train_operation
@fullsteamahead51094 жыл бұрын
All lines are automatic with the exception of the Bakerloo,Waterloo and city and Piccadilly lines. The stations are automatically 'skipped'. Its officially known as ATO STATION SKIP.
@fullsteamahead51094 жыл бұрын
@@DMC888 not correct.
@metmatt4 жыл бұрын
@@fullsteamahead5109 The Metropolitan, District, Circle and Hammersmith & City lines are only partially automatic (Euston Square to Finchley Road/Hammersmith/Paddington is autmoatic so far) so the vast majority of these lines are still manually driven.

The London Underground station has almost no people in there and the subways/stations are more cleaner and hygienic during this epidemic than the disgusting subway trains and stations that are not even clean enough, has more homeless living in there dirtying everywhere and is still has people riding on the trains going to work in New York City.

man when I see this keeps me thinking about 28 Days Later it is so surreal every major city across the planet is now deserted, all that because of one single virus. We humans think we control the world yet this tiny little thing managed to take control of everything.

Thank you, this video is great, quite soothing to watch. It’s surreal seeing Waterloo like that at any hour. Also this is real journalism unlike the MSM. Mainstream media: “packed tube trains, look at these selfish a-holes going to work, flouting the rules as seen in this one and only 5 second video clip we have.” Beno: goes to every hotspot on the network “Hello...? Anyone...?”
