Sadly for the US, modern London beats the hell out of modern NYC. Canary Wharf, despite the massive towers, was clearly designed to be as livable as possible - notice the forest of trees in that park, and the lush indoor garden. The park and underground shops give it a sense of place, like a village square. NYC today isn’t designed at all - it’s run by the developers, and “designed” by their accountants to yield maximum leasable square footage. That’s why the most recent NYC redevelopment, Hudson Yards, is a bleak desert, exposed to the frigid prevailing west wind off the Hudson River, and randomly studded with forgettable glass boxes. There’s no “there” there. Canary Wharf, the most “New Yorky” part of London, has a totally different feel. It HAS a feel.

But it's because Canary Wharf has a long term view of making the place a neighbourhood with the development of Wood Wharf and the existing South Quay just around. So it's not very comparable with NYC where the big towers area are mainly offices and not much residential.

What a great view of Canary Wharf. I kinda used it as a clutch when I was living in London. Whenever I miss Singapore, I would head here and just pretend I was back home.

Stunning place, very modern, good design and very clean. I had read that it is a semi private place with many security guards, but apparently getting there is quite easy from the street. When I travel to London I would like to spend a pleasant afternoon there :)

like the whole City of London is not part of the UK at all. They can evade almost all taxes there, horrible really. A separate world you can see....we have to change our system people !

This time I had a little trouble to find your starting point on Google Earth between all these skyscrapers😁 But after I had succeded, it was a very impressing walk. Crossrail Place Roof Garden is a gem between all this concrete and glas horror. Thanks again! 👍👍👍

I have to say this is the video that translates least well to walking on a treadmill. It's the scale of Canary Wharf, the novelty of that scale contrasted with the rest of London, that grabs you when you're actually there. Although it wouldn't feel unusual in a city like Shanghai or Chicago, in London it gives you the sensation of stepping into another world. All of this is lost though when you watch it on video. What comes across on video is how bland the architecture actually is when you're not being overwhelmed by the size of everything.
