Tim, you should have gone to the LINGERIE section and tried to pick up some rich lady, your a good looking bloke, im sure you would have been very successful in the lingerie department, you should have pretended to work there when making the approach and if she asks your name, you should have said, BOND, james bond to break the ice

As a teen at Uni in the 80s, I worked in Harrods Food Hall. My job at Easter was to unpack the Sainsbury Hot X buns, repack them in Harrods boxes and re-price them at treble what they cost on the supermarket shelf. All the snotty Sloanies snatched them up because "Darling, Harrods quality is so much better than the high street don't you know" bwa haha. 'Fools and their money' was a live action lesson.

Your comment reminded me of working in Waitrose! I was and still am sick of hearing about "WaItRoSe qUaLiTy!!" when in actual fact, they're the exact same ingredients that Tesco use and they are made in the same place- the only difference is the labels put onto the final product! We even had Tesco branded food items delivered to our store! The more you know!

The general rule of Harrods is if you have to ask the price you can't afford it, there is a tourist section which is a lot cheaper still expensive but within budget. The very first time I went to Harrods I walked around with me jaw on the ground I don't think I picked it back up of the ground till I left. I took my daughter when she was 8 she wanted to go to London for her birthday, we hit Harrods and I took her down to the café and we say at this exquisite bar, the men running it were so nice and friendly, she wanted a strawberry milk shake and pancakes, they made them right in front of her everything fresh, when they found out it was her birthday they pulled a cup cake out put a candle on it and sang happy birthday to her, the whole lot cost me 20 pounds but the birthday cake was free from them. There are two sections which are my absolute favourite one is the Jelly Belly Beans section and the other is the food court especially the macaroons

In the mid 80s my wife and I had decided on the sofa we wanted and it turned out the Harrods price was lower than anywhere else! So we went off to Harrods and found a large furniture section I think on the ground floor. We couldn't find the sofa we wanted so we asked an assistant. He said, 'You need to go to the furniture department'. We said we thought this was it, but he explained it was just a small (not small at all!!) display and we needed to go to the 3rd or 4th floor. There we discovered an entire floor dedicated to furniture that was massive - it seemed to go on for miles in all directions. We were mesmerised by the choice on offer. With help we found the sofa we were looking for and got it for the advertised lowest price with free delivery to our address 60 miles away. Harrods isn't always the most expensive place!

@@WalkWithMeTim He most likely meant how confident you are to go with camera in hand filming inside Harrods as people pass you by and you can clearly see them staring at you as you film. A lot of people would not have the confidence to do that in a store like Harrods but you seem to do it so easily (maybe with a little apprehension) but still, you did it all the same. Good on you for that, as we, your viewers get to experience what it is like to shop at Harrods.

Sensorially irresistible, financially intimidating. Yes, I remember the frequent trips to Harrods, more for sightseeing than anything. While it’s undeniably an Aladdin’s cave of wonderful items, I’m probably not alone in finding it all vaguely obscene. Quite frankly, I’d be too embarrassed to spend 75 grand on a bottle of whisky. Imagine how that amount could transform the life of someone on the streets, ironically turning to alcohol to blot out their troubles. Just goes to show that there are exotic tiers of life that most of us will never experience, other than rubber necking in places like Harrods. Great video thanks, just wish it was longer.

Agree with every point you made. I've been told many times to not give cash to homeless people, and my feelings are that, if I were in their situation, especially in winter, I too would want to spend what little cash I had on something to blot out my troubles. Many don't agree, but we all make choices. Whether they're right or wrong.

I wonder if they still do it. I was a student too in the ‘90s and used to go browsing inside Harrods. In fact after Xmas used to go perfume shopping with friends on Boxing sale. I remember how desperate some of those little European boys they used to hire at the bakeries to sell the stuff. Then years later when I revisited, I didn’t buy much except for some British souvenirs and this little Italian boy kept pushing me to buy stuff using the US dollars I had on me. They said they accepted US dollars at every department of Harrods…of course at triple the rate. I wasn’t born yesterday to purchase off using that currency to be ripped off.

I bought my old Roberts R737 radio here about 25 years ago. Having spent over £100, my receipt qualified me to jump the queue for the toilets (and they were free with the receipt). The toilet and washrooms were like those found in an exclusive club on Pall Mall. Pure Edwardian splendour! (And lots of very expensive soaps and colognes free to customers to try out.) Liveried attendants constantly busy making everything pleasant to use.

Shopping has certainly changed. As a child, the Thalhimers (Richmond, Virginia) wine department would spot my father in the mens department. They would gather up my father's standard order and a few new offerings. As Mom took care of the Dad's clothes purchases, my father would discuss his order with the wine staff. Then Mom would talk with the food court chefs to whip up something for a traveling dinner for the trip back home. One of the few times we were allowed to eat in the car. My parents and I always used to go in early December for a bit of shopping, then lunch ( the 1970s ), it wasn't the full on luxury store that it has since become at that time. We go to Harrod’s whenever we visit London and we buy quite a few things at good prices , you can find lots of beautiful Christmas decorations at very good prices and the food at the marketplace is actually not that expensive considering you’re in one of the most expensive cities in the world. So yes, it’s mostly high end but you can definitely go and have a great time and buy a few things and not break the bank.

I worked around the corner from there in the early 2000's. Nice to spend my lunchtime occasionally having a mooch. Bought a Miele Dog & Cat vacuum from there, same price as anywhere else, and they delivered to my home in a green Harrods van 😂. Still going strong vacuuming up my labradors hair. They had a sit down food bar in the food area that served roasts etc, also an oyster bar...don't know if they still do.

If you look for a ticket off-season you can find one for under $400 from Toronto > London. Off-Season is October, Early November, Late January & February. Surprisingly London has a lot of budget hotels for under $60 a night. So you'll definitely go there someday.

When I was at Uni in London, my halls of residence were just around the corner on Montpelier Street. Harrods is awesome though, yet weird! On one hand you’ve got stuff there for millionaires, but on the other hand there’s stuff for regular people at regular prices. I mean, a few of us did our weekly shop at the Harrods food halls as it was cheaper than shopping at Sainsbury’s on Gloucester Road when you took into account getting a taxi there and back (this was before online shopping btw! Lol). So there I was, an 18 year old student, in the middle of the winter, eating fresh strawberries flown in that very morning! I felt so posh! 😂😂 F’nar F’nar! 😂😂

Harrods is for tourists, who only want the green plastic bag. It was spoiled years ago by Mohammed Fayed and is now owned by the Qataris. The best department store in London is now Selfridges on the much less fashionable Oxford Street. Fortnums is still a decent grocery.

The Harrods are similar to The Shangrila Mall of Manila, it has that eye catchy facade, with the glittery floor from the inside. The warm yellow, warm white light fixtures exudes that ambiance of refreshing, while the stores inside are similar to H.K and Macau, they have that scent of part wintergreen and lime at times. The indoor escalators all the way up are interconnected with one another. It also has plenty of the signatured brands these days, as Marks and spencers, almon Marina for dining experience, LVuitton, Yves SaintLauren. Some of the European products can also be found similar from Harrods, Rolex, DC Gabbana, name it, Shangrila Mall has it, exclusive shopping for the premier and Good shopping and exercise for all at the same time. The Comfort room is wide, spacious and it has the sheer of metal finish, fit also for the Finnish. SMEs.........respectively.

This is such a gorgeous video thanks so much for posting it. I live not much more than half an hour from Harrods and yet I haven't been in there in a while. I really love Harrods though. Back in the day I used to go in there for pens. I like to use real ink and fountain pens pretty much all the time and Harrods always had a great range. I've always lusted after a Montblanc Meistersück which was pen of choice for world leaders back in the 80s and the tradition, when signing East-West peace accords, always was for the great leaders to swap pens. So I always wanted a huge shiny Meistersück pen. They cost a bit more than £600, somewhere between £700-£900 last time I looked. I did use Montblanc ink though and that came in a bottle shaped like a shoe. The heel of the shoe contained an ink reservoir just big enough to poke the nib in without getting your pen too inky. They even used to make the old-fashioned Victorian blue-black ink, the type that goes on light and darkens as it oxidises. It's said to be ultra-permanent. I heard record offices use that type of ink. Blue-black iron-gall ink in a glass shoe. Now that's luxury!
