Oh wow - thank you so much for this, it’s absolutely wonderful! I grew up in the Coombe area in the 1980s - Norbiton was my station, went to school in Kingston, had a part time job in New Malden. I’ve lived in America for 20yrs now so being able to see this is just great. I love your narration too - very informative. Lots I didn’t know! Subscribed, and will definitely be watching more😊👍

Very enjoyable video. Near the start, where you mention "The Cut" towards Kingston, there is also a very attractive path and cycle route on the other side of the road which has been opened quite recently by the Council and provides a pleasant walk to Raynes Park. It is certainly worth exploring if you are in the area.

Yes, I have been to Canada, a couple of times and really loved it. But alas it's been over 20 years since I last went - to Vancouver as I recall, we sort of came over from the US via Niagara on the bus. It's on our return list but having had to cancel all of our travel plans for this year, including to Boston in the US, everything is being re-thought. I feel a list coming on!

You would definitely know this area very well then! Glad to bring back memories and I agree, New Malden has a great feel to it - Sandra Oh referred to it as a 'village' in one interview. I'm pleased you picked up on the videos being a good guide for people possibly moving to an area. I have had at least one comment from the mother of an overseas student who is studying here and they find it comforting to get an idea what it all feels and looks like with their kids so far away. So I am very mindful of that, plus of course I don't really want to go around dissing people's neighbourhoods! Angela

Yes it is indeed sad and so much more of that on the way. So you were the owner of the New Malden Blockbuster eh? Went there many times.
@deborahaltunel29034 жыл бұрын
So sad this was my home town for all my life from 0 to 27. I cant believe Tudor Williams is gone, plus the Fountain Pub how was a Land Mark like that never saved. My grandmother met my grandfather in there during the war. You also failed to mention the loss of the Graham Spicer Institute knocked down for waitrose, and you panned over the old fire station that was part saved as historic to New Malden it was in front of waitrose. I have nothing against Korea or its people they are lovely but it hurts my heart to hear my home town now relegated as nothing more than 'little Korea' it was so much more than this. You didn't even mention the police station on the corner also saved and turned into a restaurant, plus the WW2 siren still on top. Plus the tiles on the roofs of buildings on high Street look different as they were repaired after bomb damage. You walked straight past the railway pub one of the oldest again. Next to that used to be Chemies in the 80's great bar. And the place that is the restaurant in killing eve was also a bar in the 80's. Macdonalds was blockbuster and before that a paint shop called Fab I think. Yet another Korean site now was woolworths, and another sainsbury. Really sad to see your old home town ripped apart and called little korea
