Yes, ordering Oyster Cards to be sent to you in advance is an excellent idea. You will enjoy Phantom, I went a few years ago and really liked it. The No 11 bus video should be out next week then there is another one I want to try that goes more in the direction of Oxford Street I think. Great to hear from you:)

Thank you very much Frank for your kind comment, and super-thanks for watching my videos:) The narration is something I tried in order to communicate a bit better with the people watching - I don't like being on camera so prefer to chat from behind the camera. Honestly, the simply things I miss from home. Like, stopping in WH Smith's and reading my phone magazines (back in the mid-late 90's), and getting sausage rolls from Greggs!!! I remember my days of running for the tube! Bethnal Green to Archway... PS: I like the commentary, and the knowledge sharing of the stations, and such. Nicely done.

What a wealth of information. Yes. I absolutely adore how you so easily put things into context. People who are not living in London don't notice things like, "In this road are all the major government buildings.", but we would really like to know those things, so that London isn't just a bunch of houses without a context. Like "This kind of people go here.", or "That kind of people meet there.". I always wandered where Londoners meet in the evening, when they want to go out, at what time, to what places they are going, how long they stay out, and how do they go back home? I mean, there are towns where people like to go out early, but in some towns they go out very late. It is true that I am too old to spend my time that way, but I am interested, never-the-less, just to see how people are living in London these days, :) . While we are at stations, the story of Waterloo station, The City, and the Waterloo and City line should be interesting. Regarding things that you didn't mention, guess who won his first major competition in Victoria Palace Theatre? You can see him at the very end of this video (hint, he's Austrian, :) ): kzbin.info/www/bejne/q6a4gaeIfbOMo68

That's a brilliant video, thanks for sending that:) Re: what Londoners do in the evening, this is such an interesting question, and I could give you an extremely long answer, depending on location, interests, time of year, stage of life etc. I think going out after work is still quite popular - usually to the pub - for people working in London, but most people have to get home for family responsibilities. London is full of activities in the evening - further education, cinema, exercise and dance lessons and studios, theatres and the like, shopping on certain nights, eating out, visiting friends, choirs and music, bowling, sports, football, the list goes on and on. But I think we are usually finished by 10pm! Thanks for your supportive and helpful comment 👍

@@ChattyWalkswithAngela 10pm. Hm, rather early. For example, when I was younger (lets say late 20s, early 30s), we used to meet once a week, usually Saturdays, lets say 8 pm, or 8:30 pm. Standard places ("pubs") closed up at 11 pm, so that people can take daytime tramway (they are running until 11:30 pm, and then comes the night service, which is less frequent, fewer lines, which like to go around too much, not directly). Working day we didn't go out, so this was our day off, once a week. Old friends, some of us knew each other for 10 years. So, we didn't go out with colleges from work, we didn't care about them (usually). Colleges from work are just people we know at work. Real friends used to meet once a week, if nothing else comes about. I don't know if London has similar kind of lifestyle. Families with children use to go to each others place (on weekends), with children, lets say, once a month. This is earlier in the day, not too late (maybe 6 pm to 8:30 pm). Here we own a place where we are living (in 90 % of cases).

@@MarioPetrinovich Hello, this sounds very similar to here in the UK actually. And it could be me being too sleepy saying 10pm!

@@ChattyWalkswithAngela Or, because of going out after work. We cannot go out after work simply because we work too early (I worked on shifts, so I don't know for sure, but it should be something like from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm). After that early awakening we are too tired to go out at working days. Croatia is a communist country (still), and communists have some stupid reasons why they are torturing us with that early awakenings.

Thanks Ross Roams. Hi Angela, Another enjoyable video, love the narration. I hope you persevere with your channel and it grows, as has Watched Walker. I'm intrigued by your accent, it's not London, is it?
@ChattyWalkswithAngela4 жыл бұрын
Hello there John, I hope all is well in your world, and thank you as always for your supportive comment:) If you have any corrections, do go ahead, I always await anything from you that I missed or got wrong so I can learn. Watched Walker is my absolute hero; I can't imagine reaching his dizzy heights, but if there one thing I am in life it is REALLY persistent, so I very much appreciate your encouragement to persevere - which I definitely plan on doing. And my accent is actually from the west country, where I lived until I was 18. An old coal mining community just outside of Bath and with names reflected in much of Midsomer Murders, oddly enough. Now, regarding my next video on the No 11 bus, this was a choice that was largely inspired by your list of good bus routes in London. I felt a bit silly talking into a camera recording the journey from Victoria to Liverpool Street so my commentary is a little quiet, but was fortunate to bag the front seat at the top. The video should be out next week. Angela

Hello there Fred, good to hear from you as always. Yes indeed, if you have traveled into London to or from Gatwick then chances are Victoria will be familiar to you. My doctoral research was about trust in international business across cultures, which involved researching joint ventures in post-communist Russia. Hi This is nice example of my idea of how walking videos should be shoot: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eWnWgmxor7mneJY "Walkers" usually point camera straight on. That way I can see things that are straight on, people, asphalt, horizontal signalization on streets, and cars. The only building I can see clearly is actually the building at the end of the street (on street that is crossing this one at the right angle), if there is one there. The buildings on the "walking" street I actually don't see at all. This is like watching Mona Lisa, but looking it in the direction which is parallel to the painting. I will not see much that way. Streets aren't cars, people, pavement, and asphalt, streets are buildings. So, in a video I could see thousands of pedestrians, hundreds of cars, but I may not see a single building properly. And that way every street looks just the same, more people and more cars. The only difference is if some street has less or more cars or pedestrians. See how the above video is much more dynamic. "Straight on" videos are static, nothing changes. You see something at the end of the street, and you see this coming closer and closer, for minutes. When you finally come close enough to that, you make a right turn, and again the same, minutes pass in monotony, nothing actually happens. The only thing I could add to the above video is that the walker is shooting only the opposite side of the street. That way we get only half of the story. He could turn camera to shoot his side, also. I might not see the third floor of the building, but in real life I don't see it anyway, ground floor is enough for me to get the feeling, the sense of the street.

Hello, there are time stamps in the description if you want to find a particular part of the video, which is why I put them there. If you are on a mobile device and can't find the time stamps, then I can start putting them in an opening pinned comment - do you think that would help? As this is a walking channel, at present the walking is prioritised over some of the how to elements, which is shown in the title and description. If I do more 'how to' type elements, I might start making some shorter, say 5-minute videos, that concentrate on those aspects. Do let me know if there is anything you think may be helpful to visitors. Angela
