John I watch your videos all the time and I love them I have one question why is there a chain under the horses head
@heatherharvey31296 ай бұрын
I posted a reply that doesn't appear now - I think because I posted a link to a YT video from about 6 or 8 years ago where a trooper was explaining each piece of the horse's tack, including the chain. I'm guessing YT don't allow links to other YT videos. The answer to your question is that it is part of the traditional tack that the horses had to wear when going into battle, to deflect/minimise any injury to the horse from swords.
@kathellison80846 ай бұрын
The chain is a tether chain from campaign days used to attach the horses to a line for safety , rest , food and water while the Troopers also tested and ate . It clips to the headcollar then lies loose around the neck .
@heatherharvey31296 ай бұрын
@@kathellison8084 Interesting because that wasn't the explanation given by a trooper who was explaining the horses' tack in a YT video I found but it certainly is another sensible use for the chain. @kathellison80846 ай бұрын
@heatherharvey3129- I think also if the reins were cut by a sword the chain though not attached to the bit could be used as a back up to control the horse as it's clipped to the headcollar . Horse Guards was originally the entrance to The Palace of Whitehall and St James Palace . Whitehall Palace burned down in the 17th century and was never rebuilt . Horse Guards was rebuilt in the 18th century , as stables and military base which it still remains . It's not difficult to look up the history . Those who visit as part of a tour group will be given some history and information ( though depending on the guide not always correct ) . Many who come along the Mall from Buckingham Palace probably have no idea of its history and that the soldiers really are soldiers in the British Army . There is the Museum on the Parade ground and various information boards . Will people read them or bother to look up Horse Guards on the phones that are permanently glued to their hands who knows ?
