If I was Charles, I would be going, "What the hell", but maybe he likes it. I am sure he saw a preview, I wonder what his sons and other family members think. Too much red for me, but maybe it does symbolize the blood of the global colonies, and lower classes, and centuries of war, not to mention bloodshed within the royals.

I just see the floating head and hand also until the closeup showed his outfit. The king should have the artist redo the background. The king is known worldwide for his love of nature, the background could reflect that. Instead, he looks like he is standing in fire. His face looks rough as well. Did the king know it was going to look like this, or was he just being polite? Let the king have the dignity of a decent portrait.

No one expects The Spanish Inquisition! t is meant to draw your attention from a distance But then the viewer must come close up to see what is there , up-close the details that appear from the swirls of red. This potrat is in the realm of modern art. Not the stuffy old portrait style that has been done ad nauseam for the past centuries. It is bold, fresh and the artist has captured his likeness beautifully. I personally would have defined his garment a bit more to soften the look of the painting unifying the floating head/hands appearance. In all, this is a beautifully executed portrait.

Whatever the artist's intention is/was, I love the portrait! I mean what could a more clear commentary on the monarchy than King Charles III partially emerging out of a wall, or sea, of blood & demons as if he was actually made up of, or BORN of that very substance!? He’s breaking away from tradition. I like it. It’s only satanic to religious people. To an atheist if made me think he was breaking away from traditional boring paintings and how he possibly felt about dying of cancer. I like it. Maybe also depicts that he wants people look at him for who he is (face hands) not my title. His uniform fades into the background but face is clear. It tells a story. The butterfly helps.
