I used to get a late Piccadilly Line train home from work past that vent shaft after Manor House. You can hear the air pressure change as you approach it and regularly lots of dust got sucked into the front carriage of the train as it passed. There's another identical shaft building between Bounds Green and Wood Green

This series is definitely my favourite on this channel! Maybe you could extend it with just 'interesting things about the tube', which contains generally interesting stuff that might not be good enough to put in a 'secrets' video? It would be cool to see how many secrets you can spot in one days tube spotting! Might do that on my next 'London outing'!

Metropolitan line which share platforms with national rail between Harrow on the Hill and Amersham still reference "British Rail" on the signage even though British Rail hasn't existed for more than 20 years. The LUL ticket office/ticket machine at Marylebone is still painted in Network Southeast colours even though that's not existed as an entity for 20 years either.

It has always been called Rayners Lane, though in the 1920s the Metropolitan Railway attempted to rename the station 'Harrow Garden Village' (a nearby area of semi-detached houses) but the local council at the time rejected the name change.

Your old photo of Liverpool street redundant platform 3 brings back memories. I used to work for NWR Ohl maintenance, remember working through that area on the old permaquip trolleys a couple of times back in the 1990s. Always made me wonder when you see these derelict lines/ platforms to nowhere. There’s so many of them still knocking about in the undergrowth, great podcast mate .
@bonskieur55586 жыл бұрын
The map at Greenford has recently been corrected, so no longer says Shepherd's Bush Green :( At Northolt (my local station) you can occasionally see something cool. Some Westbound trains terminate at Northolt (often in the mornings) and then go into a siding, just beyond the platform, between the Westbound and Eastbound lines. If you stand at the end of the platform, and wait a few minutes, you can see the driver enter the cab at what was the rear of the train and then switch the lights from red tail lights to white headlights. If you then wait a few more minutes the train will come into the station and you can get on a empty train with plenty of seats!

Geoff, There's one secret you haven't covered. As the Northern line doesn't appear to have any Network Rail connection nor a connection to any other Underground line, how and where do they get new trains onto the line and how did they get trains to Acton Works, when that was the major overhaul depot? I believe there's an underground connection to the Piccadilly line somewhere near Kings Cross. Is that correct?

At Upton Park the ironwork on the roofing still has the LSER initials. At East Ham to the left of the East bound district line you can still make out the bay for trains that used to run back round to , I think, Stratford and points west - look at Browning Road E6 and you will see the curve where it followed the rail line. DLR - if you go to the buffer end at Tower Gateway and look straight across the road you can see the Fenchurch Street C2C platforms only a short distance away. - pity they could not make the connection

It looks like the Arsenal roundel is made out of little tiles. It may just have been a lot easier to use the same tiles between each diamond instead of individual ones to match the gaps.

Between Ruislip and ickenham on the Uxbridge branch of the Piccadilly is also a little known loop passing through Ruislip depot to Ruislip Gardens on the Central Line. It's only used by engineering trains. Also, one of the roundel nameplates at St james's Park on the District and Circle is spelt wrongly. The one on the eastbound platform was positioned too close to the exit stairs, and rather than reposition the roundel they deliberately spelt it wrong. It reads St James' Park instead of St James's Park.

The coal deliveries to South Harrow Gasworks from Harrow yard did not end at the formation of the LTPB in 1933 as stated in the vid. Coal deliveries (and the removal of spoil) continued via the rail spur under the auspices of London Transport until town gas production ceased at the site in 1954. The site continued as a gas distribution centre for many years after this but there was no longer any requirement for bulk deliveries to the site. A large and unsightly gas holder remained at the site for many years. In 1960, it was the cause of a civil aviation mishap when it was wrongly identified by the captain of a PanAm Boeing 707 as the very similar gas holder at Southall, which was used as a convenient landmark by flight crews on their approach to Heathrow. The flight mistakenly came in to land at RAF Northolt, coming to a halt on Northolt's much shorter runway with only feet to spare. The aircraft had later to be stripped of its seats, surplus fuel and other excess weight in order to be able to take off from Northolt. After the incident the respective gasholders were marked NO and LH in large painted lettering in order that such misidentification was not repeated.

Here's some more: West Ham still has signage displaying a limited H&C service beyond Whitechapel. Canary Wharf LU is closer to Heron Quays DLR than to Canary Wharf DLR (plus, Canary Wharf Crossrail's relationship with multiple DLR stations will be a complicated mess!) Elephant & Castle still shows Jubilee line interchange at Charing Cross, on the map at the Bakerloo platforms' entrance.
