Part 2 of our canal towpath series sees us walk from City Road to Camden, spotting things along the way, including a floating bookshop and an old ice store.

Great video. I have lived in London most of my life and never knew about the green steps in Granary Square or the 'Word on the Water' floating bookshop. I will have to go and look at both as soon as I can.

Walked the part between Islington Canal Tunnel and Camden Lock a few weeks ago which was a lot of fun. I might take a shot at walking other parts of the canal in the future. Interesting part of London that I would have never known of if I hadn't seen these videos.

I'd never realised that the Fleet crossed the canal in a pipe under a bridge. Silly really, as it;s obvious that they cross each other, I'd just never thought about where it went.

That is brilliant. I've been to Granary Square a couple times but I didn't realise it used to be a basin. Keep up the great work Geoff. Also, I highly recommend the Canal Museum. It's very well done, the people there are helpful and friendly and they have a good selection of canal books for sale.

I live in Camden. The towpath is an endless source of peace and quiet for me. I haven't yet seen any other videos in this series. I'm hoping they will tell the viewer why the canal was built. And who built it! I know these historical facts; they are part of my heritage being a Londoner and living in London,

I got knocked into the canal near angel whilst cycling under a bridge by a fool in a suit on a brompton. Let me tell you, you don't need a ramp to get you out when its october! I hauled myself up looking like something in creature from the black lagoon. Shout out to the dude who knocked me in and who took off all his clothes and stood on the side like a lemon whilst I got myself out and then had to jump back in to retrieve my bike and all my belongings!!!

@chrish.950
@chrish.950 9 жыл бұрын
tomtucjr Look up the Islington Tunnel Wikipedia page. At first, they were "legged" through the tunnel, until a steam tug with a continuos chain was installed (and later replaced by a diesel engine).
@nightw4tchman

tomtucjr Virtually all canal tunnels used people to walk the boat through. They would lie on top of the boat and walk along the upper wall of the tunnel.

***** Geoff's attire. First he reminds me of Cossy, who has apparently disappeared. He seems to be tall and have a long trunk. Some tall people are all leg. His below the knee shorts(I'm an American) seem similar to those of the animated character in Python interludes/asides who verbalizes nonsense about something angering him. Rugby player, referee? The left sock is blue. The right sock is orchid, magenta, bright lilac. I miss wearing colorful socks in argyle, due to compression stockings. Also the two toned or lined shirt. A blue lining contrasting with the outer raspberry sherbet.

The book shop "word on the water", is an independent shop. Why did that coffee shop have to be another bloody Starbucks. An independent cafe would've been better especially as its on the canal. A big coffee chain just doesn't look right here.
