I went up Yardley Hill last year in the spring, I loved it. I'll be coming back with a good book and plenty of food and relaxing all day on a hot day.

7:35 Actually, I'm not sure if that is completely correct. The smaller marker is an Ordnance Survey trig marker used for the triangulation map of the UK back in the 1930s. The 10ft obelisk does have a plaque that suggests the trig pillar may be the Greenwich Meridian, but if you are up at Pole Hill at night you can see the green laser beam from Greenwich in the skyline and it does not run through that marker stone. However, the final part of your video inspired me to go and look for that Yardley Hill myself today. I found it, after a 15 minute bike ride through the forest and it was a steep slog up the grassy hill (looks like I came in from a different point from you) and it was clear blue skies and well worth the effort, so thank you!

Thanks a lot for the detailed reply, glad the video inspired you to explore it. In no way I’m an expert of trig points and obelisks, but I doubt one could ever see this spot from Greenwhich via the laser, even with the longest of long lenses the heat distortion would make it completely blurry , but I do like a challange 😀

@@LondonViewpointsThe green laser beam (which has been reported to have been visible 40 miles away from its source) is very obvious tonight (cold, clear skies) and I have seen it with my own eyes when I was out earlier. If you go to the top of Pole Hill you would see it on a night like this and if you ascend from the bottom of Woodbury Way, as you did in your video, you will see it to your left as you go up the hill through the leaf-less trees. When you reach the marker stone you would see the alignment is off. I visit Pole Hill maybe twice a week to do my drinks reviews videos (on my KZbin channel, in fact my latest upload was filmed there) but this was the first time I have been to Yardley Hill and it was purely because I watched your video before I went out this morning. I saw we had blue skies and thought that's it, I'm going to go and find it. Lived in Chingford for 40+ years and never even knew it was there! I even mentioned you and your video in MY video today when I was up there filming my thing. So thanks again!

@@LordHeath1972 indeed last two days the conditions were perfect for long distance visibility so I guess it is possible as you say. Thanks for the mention I’ll check out your video. I’m not often in Chingford but have to revisit this for some new fresh photos as the view would’ve changed quite a lot since making this one

I think i was the same, but then I come from a small 100k population town that never had a skyline so only since I got into photography and moved to London that I discovered my passion for views

The effect you were talking about can be called atmospheric heat distortion, it is mostly caused by the air moving around with different temperature and density
@LondonViewpoints4 жыл бұрын
If you say so, than that’s it, seems you know about this so I won’t disagree, it’s my biggest enemy for sharp photos
@DirkDien4 жыл бұрын
@@LondonViewpoints Yes I can imagine! Especially since you are focussing on targets far away. I use long lenses usually for birds, there you can also have it, if they are far away. Steve Perry also made a video about it some time ago: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o6O9nGmnadKdsMk Thanks for sharing your Noct f0.95 review btw, that video was just mindblowing!
