Most of the first season suffers from a unique contradiction. Having the franchise creator given too much control and a writing team that provides too generic storylines. So there are frequent rethreads of TOS ideas ('Journey To Babel', 'Turnabout Intruder', etc.), but they don't do anything substantial with those concepts. I understand it is not straightforward to make a show like this (and the cast and crew put in very long days), but this is an underwhelming start to TNG. And try to remember that Admiral Bitchayev is just doing her job. You'll appreciate how reasonable she is once you see her TNG in-series counterpart.

It couldn't be said better about the first seasons story recycling. Old writers reworking 25 year old scripts and having to butt heads with Roddenberrys vision,.now more steeled than ever. Wait, there's a worse admiral than the one chasing me?! I'll believe it when I see it 😆
