I feel this video is more relevant today than ever! I got more laps in that silly jzx90 in 3 days than I did in a whole season over here in the USA. Came back to the US and decided to keep my drift car simple so I could drive it as much as possible. Literally in the last 2 years I have only changed the tires/ oil, and added fuel. It has been some of the most stress free drifting I have ever had! Its crazy to see guys who have barely driven hunkering down in their garages for years building this "PRO AM CAR" only to go into debt and never get to drive it. Get out of the garage and onto the track!

i think caleb is doing it right, build the car once and do it properly. have something you can enjoy for a lifetime. also, i think this video is more geared towards guys building thier first drift car, not a second or 3rd. which you usually have to build after you half ass your first build and realize where you went wrong. my $0.02 anyways

Gave it a like even before watching simply for the fact that the title rings so true about the drift community these days. I'm a firm believer that you should start out with a completely maintained, reliable stock platform and once you've gotten your consistency down and mastered the basic skills needing to control the car in the majority of situations THEN and only then should you start adding power, angle, "Hydro" and the big boy fancy parts that have become so mainstream. And once i watched the first few minutes i also realized this is a re-upload, which is fine because it sends an appropriate message.
@LoneStarDrift7 жыл бұрын
Yeah I always planned to put it on my channel as well as the BC Racing channel, but forgot. And with all my traveling around the world, I thought this was even more relatable now than it was when it was first made. Guys are building 750 WHP pro 2 cars before they have ever gone to their first drift event now, and they just keep escalating.

I like the idea of both worlds. 3 years ago I was all about driving but now I love the build process and learning more about fabrication, design, etc... Simple car = more driving time and complex car = learning trade skills. Both have major advantages. Love the video.

I respect drifting a bunch, but I'm more into rally cars, and I was gonna have my car down for a little while I build it up a bunch, but because of you guys, I think I'll just the engine (cause it's hard to come by) and hold onto it. In the mean time, I'm gonna keep racing at local events and develop as a driver. thank you so much guys!!!!!!

Aaron and team really hit it on the head in this video, it doesn't matter if you have a KA or SR, get out and get some seat time! You don't need a 20k built Drift Car to get the practice in!

3 years ago everyone was anti-missle car. 'bring back style!' they said. now the trend seems to be going back to super basic cars focusing on seat time. Why not build the car you can afford, have fun and progress as a driver. if you want a v8, do it! if you want adjustable suspension, do it! just build the car within your means
@clutchkickpj6937 жыл бұрын
Curtis Chornohos that's definitely NOT the style in the USA FD gives false hope that everyone can have 1000hp $100,000+ drift cars and the media out covers the grass roots more affordable fun style of drifting. Ppl have 50k Into a drift car and the car has never seen 50 laps.
@curtischornohos63657 жыл бұрын
i agree that FD competition isn't for everyone. its def way too expensive for like 99% of the population, why there are only ~28 driver field this year. I guess this whole video hits home to me because i've been down the big build road. buit a car that cost me too much $ too fast and i ended up parting out the car after an engine failure. i tried running a basic s13 with SR20 and didn't have nearly as much fun compared to driving a properly built chassis. So now, i've taken the last year off driving to build my ideal car. yes i'm missing seat time, but it's an investment in the future. It's a more expensive build than a typical grassroots car, but it's built to be reliable and stylish at the same time. I dont think the build is above my skill level, its a v8 car, but its only about 350whp and has proper adjustable suspension. maybe i'm just salty cuz i build a proper car and everyone seems to be hating on that. I've got a couple videos up on my channel, let me know if you think it's overkill
@MindYaBizz_Whiz7 жыл бұрын
So. Good. Need more of this. The editing, the content, the message. All of it.
@OkamiDrift7 жыл бұрын
Great video, great message! Without seat time you cannot have a practical understanding of how your car should be built or set up. All you can do is mimic what other people have done and hope it works for you. I think you posed a video a while ago about Nakamura's car, and his set up was so simple. No drop knuckles, no crazy swaps, just all basic stuff. His skills are just off the charts!

Couldn't agree more, I've been drifting a LS400 with coils and a welded diff for just over a year now at a few different tracks and my driving has developed quite fast in my opinion. I like to think that if I was in a car with big power, lots of angle, and a good hydro setup I'd still be driving the same as I was over a year ago.

Amazing video. Needed more Aaron though! Just said this on one of Chelsea's videos, but I also think that the idea of adjusting your driving style (or learning more) is something that's getting forgotten in America, I see so many people modifying or telling other people to modify their cars or choosing a specific chassis solely for the purpose of making drifting easier. That takes some of the fun out of it to me.

Hey Aaron, cool video and great point! However, I don't get dissing V8s and Wisefab by Jonathan there. My car has neither, and yes, it's fun and cool and rewarding to pull off something cool in a stock angle, sub 200kW car. But a good friend of mine took his nearly 2 years to build an E30 with a half cage, Wisefab and BMW V8 and that was the "simple" solution without spending a dime or a minute on appearance. After 2 drift days, he is doing good, pulling ~100km/h entries and skidding 4th in a sub 300hp car. Can't see what's wrong with that.

This why I refused to install a hydro e brake I could of picked up for free. It would make me want to do other mods that I don't necessarily need until I've masters the basics on my s14 chassis. Right now, just keep it bolt on sr20 with just the turbo upgrade with close to stock steering angle and the usual suspension stuff.

Legit question here. I'm on a stock single 1JZ in a Soarer / SC platform. I think my tires would last like MAYBE two or three laps on tracks like these. Do you have any tips on making them last longer or am I running too soft of a tire? I usually run ATR sports or Federal SS595
@LoneStarDrift7 жыл бұрын
We run kr20 Kenda tires. We run them in a size that we struggle a tad to drift at our highest speeds on track, and adjust air pressure to suit the grip. On my jzx100 I run a 235 with a stock 1jz, ranging from 50-15 psi depending on what I am doing. On my mustang I do the same thing with a 265. I normally change my driving style to suit what I am doing for max tire wear, and only use as much throttle or hp as I need to get stuff done. I typically get 25 laps per set of rear tires, sometimes more, sometimes less. For example, if the tandem isn’t amazing, don’t finish drifting the lap. Let your tires cool way down. Stuff like that.
@Kyu1LL7 жыл бұрын
Lone Star Drift okay yeah I'm on a 235 right now and I switch between a 17 and 18 inch wheel. The 18 seems to wear more evenly but I can't tell if they last longer. I need to try these Kendas because I keep hearing good things. I usually run around 40-50 psi but I'm not sure if more psi helps or hurts. Obviously more psi makes it easier to break Traction but I also feel like it chunks the tire faster. Maybe that's a byproduct of me going WOT more.
@DriftNick7 жыл бұрын
Kenda KR20's are great, I've run them on my cars for awhile, they don't fall apart and last ages, a lot of people here in Australia run them now.

ive commented before talking to you about buying a 5.0 mustang like yours for a drift car and the one ive had my eyes on with only damage around the fender is finally up for sale this week, do you think its too much for someone just getting into drifting? i have a s13 but havnt been able to decide what route i want to go with it yet after almost 2 years so i figured id just go ahead with buying the mustang since its a reliable drift car with only some suspension parts and a tune. do you think its a safe route to go? I can even daily the car or make it a street monster if i wanted too because I have dealer license plates and insurance I can use on any vehicle.
@LoneStarDrift7 жыл бұрын
The newer 5.0 motors are rad, and I would say go for it. You will have to learn how to drive around the steering. A 350z from 2007-2008 is a bit easier starting point, but the mustang is pretty cool. It needs suspension stuff and knuckles though and a tune to remove throttle lag! If you buy it I will send you to someone to order parts
