I saw 10 of them responding to a house fire. If it wasn't for PulsePoint I would have thought a bunch of cops jacked the fire trucks and took them on a high speed police chase because they were coming in from every single intersection in the neighborhood. there were so many they took up 2 blocks and still had to park along the side street (the street i was living on at the time). looked like a parade and all that because some idiot shouted FIRE.

Unfortunately here in California we have to utilize fire resources that are sometimes 100s of miles from the fire...because of just how massive our brush fires can get. Sometimes these strike teams will travel over 500 miles to a fire. Even this one likely travelling to the Bobcat fire probably travelled 70 miles, and passed through dozens of cities including LA to reach the fire. The fortunate thing is we have the resources to as a state to utilize such a system.

@@HannTheftAudio I used to volunteer in Riverside County (California). Was on a strike team and there were 2 strike teams at one station just awaiting assignment to a wildland fire. The station gets called to a structure fire (usually 3 engine response). All 10 engines and 2 strike team leaders respond because you can't split a strike team once formed. It was a large house but unintentional over kill, but at least there was a quick knockdown of the fire.

I'm wondering if the individual agencies will have enough Engines to make up More strike teams and keep stations equipped as many Departments don't have Quints like LA CO. as with Both the Lake and Ranch fires being stubborn and smaller ones cropping up and being delt with it must by today be taxing the resources in the multi county area(Ventura/LA/OC/SBD/Riverside)

Yes, a fire department will always have enough resources to back fill engines that are sent out on strike teams. Departments will have mandatory overtime if they have too, plus the use of spare engines in place of those that are out on strike teams (mainly only applies to Type 1s).

Maybe it was an off duty captain or other non-chief position in charge of the strike team. I have been on ones that the highest ranking engine captain is in charge, like CALFIRE/Riverside County doesn't have captains in charge of each engine depending on the shift (1980s /90s). It doesn't always have to be a BC.
