Long Beach Fishing Pier J | One Hour Fishing Challenge

Welcome back guys! We enjoyed fishing at Pier J in Long Beach so much that we figured what better place to do a one hour fishing challenge than this place. It was super fun that Duff and James had a great time fighting for first place! Between them both they caught 13 fish in Long Beach! Mostly Mackerel fish but there was a few Barred Sand Bass and one Calico Bass (Kelp Bass). It is pretty weird to hear the Mackerel make such a weird noise but fish are different after all.

Coming out the 105 west freeway at dockweiler make a left park infront of the departmen of water and power there are some rocks there go early 530 to 6 get muscle and fish of the shore i caught some big as fish like that would like to see ya try

If you want to try a new spot, if you go to Redondo beach and park at kings harbor, there are rocks you can fish off of there.

We use anywhere from a 1/8 oz jig to 3/8 jig depending on the tides. With 2”-4” paddle tails. We prefer keitech & megabass ones.

Any tips for this spot? Been a couple times and dont catch numbers, maybe 5 tops. Using keitechs as well

What size jigs are you using? The times we’ve had success there we just throw next to the rocks, let it sink and start slow retrieving and popping it up. You’ll get snagged for sure but that’s where the bass are. As far as the mackerel they’ll hit anything that’s moving just have to find the school.

A lot of it is finding the fish, we move spot to spot till we find the schools. We don’t know how to find them but we just move till we do. The rest is luck.
