13:08 any idea what that seal is called ? The one in between the thermostat tube and water pump

That is a dust seal to keep debris from getting behind the timing cover. Generally comes with replacement water pumps. Wouldn't be a big deal if omitted. You can see it pictured here miata-source.com/products/94-05-1-8-water-pump

quick question, if i don’t have any assembly lube or high temp grease can i use engine oil to lube up the cam shaft?? btw amazing series, very well detailed, it’s been really helping me get my miata back🥲🥲thank you!

Engine oil is just fine if the engine will be running in a relatively short time. The thicker assembly lube just ensures it doesn't run off before starting

@18:00 you say about wrong way of tightening crashskaft bolt and explaining the proper way of locking the flywheel becasue tightening the bolt. But it can only be done while engine is out of the car and put on engine stand. Is there a way to lock flywheel from turning with the engine still in car? Of cousre there should not be a need to remove that bolt in the first place.

Yep there is. You can make or buy a crankshaft locking tool that bolts into the 4 damper bolts. forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=652204
