Between 10% and 30% of people are estimated to have experienced some form of long COVID after recovering from a COVID-19 infection, and scientists still don’t yet know what causes it. Dr. Purvi Parikh, an immunologist and long COVID specialist at NYU Langone in New York, joins "CUOMO" to discuss the three prevailing theories about a cause.

The Recover program hasn’t answered my request to join since the program came out. WE have been telling the world about long covid Since the Spring of 2020. We have been gaslight, mocked and ridiculed by doctors, society and friends. I am almost 4 years. it is a national disgrace the way we have been treated.and yet we rallied together to save ourselves while so so sick, we have been denied treatment, disability benefits and having to prove how sick we are over and over. It is inhumane the way we have been treated. Thank you Chris. blow the lid on long covid off. there are millions of us.

Don’t waste your time with recover. I’m in it and dropping out. They are still believing that exercise makes you better. Try do not take patient input at all. Still wasting their time with paxlovid as a long covid treatment.

Don't exercise right now. It will make you worse. Stick to gentle walks if you can and lots of sunlight early morning and late afternoon, or add in red light therapy. If you take good care of yourself now you can beat this. Seriously don't try to power through workouts. Investigate Post-Exertional Malaise (PEM) so you understand why you can't exercise your way out of this. REST. Failure to rest upon getting ill is the biggest driver of long-term disability. REST and focus on treating inflammation, the other big driver of this disease. Low Dose Naltrexone with anti-inflammatory diet, mitochondrial support (because the virus damages mitochondria) and microbiome support. You have a good chance of recovery if you do those things early. NAC can help with your breathing. A doctor may have other things that can help with that. Take care of your lungs. This can progress to pulmonary fibrosis.

This really needs to be researched, big time. So many people I know are having weird symptoms and it's just not explainable. Very severe. Behaving just like auto immune type diseases where "flare ups" happen frequently and seemingly for no reason. Debilitating.

It is and has been researched for years. The problem is pretty much everyone on here gets their news from CNN, FOX, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NBC, NPR, and BBC.

I definitely think there is something to the autoimmune hypothesis. Last year I was tested for every major autoimmune disease and everything came back negative. After 3 months of testing the drs believe it was effects from Covid.

I had "COVID pneumonia" a year ago and I'm still not right especially fatigue and breathing problems but there is a detox for it called covi-cleanse ,haven't tried it yet...
@laurabone3228
@laurabone3228 5 ай бұрын
From a fellow sufferer, don't fall for the snake oil. No cleanse is going to help you. It's a systemic disease and needs systemic support. Depends on your symptoms what you should do. Fatigue is generally from inflammation. Anti-inflammatory diet can help but Low Dose Naltrexone can be a mini miracle. Look it up. Also focus on mitochondrial support and gut health, and try NAC for your lung health and also helps mito support. CoQ10, NR (I like Tru Niagen), Alpha Lipoic Acid, melatonin, liposomal glutathione, there are others....Be patient with Low Dose Naltrexone. Probably will work within a few months, possibly earlier, but some may need up to six months for full effect. Finding the right dose is trial and error.

Not sure why this is any different from post viral syndrome that a person can get from any virus. I got it from Coxsackie B and was left with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue. The explanation I got from an infectious disease specialist was that my immune system was unable to completely clear the virus even after the worst symptom, internal bleeding, was treated.
@cpt_kirkwood
@cpt_kirkwood 5 ай бұрын
I’m so sorry that sounds excruciating. I have long covid and can’t even imagine the internal bleeding symptom. You’re right that so many viruses cause “post viral” (aka persistent virus) illness. The issue with covid is that it is so so so contagious. Some people are getting it 4x/year. It’s a mass disabling event. The other concern is with it being a vascular disease so it can impact your heart and get into your brain. Zero mitigations now, letting it run rampant. Millions and millions of people will become more and more disabled. I think this will bring attention to Lyme, EBV, flus, and other illnesses like yours that care post viral illness. I know someone with CFS after the swine flu too.

People I know (including myself and my family) who are using alternative medicine are having better outcomes with Covid and “long Covid”. Meaning even if we do get long Covid it’s only 6 weeks, not months and years. Still annoying though. Who has 6 weeks to feel sluggish?!
@laurabone3228
@laurabone3228 5 ай бұрын
As someone who is well-educated on this topic, and from personal experience with the disease. If you can get well in 6 weeks, it isn't really "Long Covid". It's Covid recovery. Long Covid is 6 months or more progressing to severe disability. Yes alternative medicine can help it from progressing to Long Covid, but it isn't all that's needed and certainly is not the "cure". Some people will never get out of bed again. Some people will die. Some people will partially recover, like me. Please don't trivialize the seriousness while touting a panacea of natural health as the cure. It is helpful, but medicines are also necessary and the disease presents differently in everyone. There is no magic bullet cure. Sometimes it seems to be luck of the draw on recovery.
