This video was so helpful. I started with long past my shoulder length loose curl pattern. My hair frizzed up like candy floss, shrunk about 5” to the back of my neck, then it tangled up & married itself to other locs at the front of my head. I had slippage in my nape area. It was hard to go through that process. I will be 8 months loc’d on 30th November & I do not regret it one bit. The frizz has calmed down, but I like a bit of frizz, it give my locs volume & no more tangles. I have curly ends which I like very much. My hair has grown about 4” & now I’m at shoulder length. Keep up the great work you are doing sis 💕 Thank you for all the knowledge 😊

Such a great and informative video. I'm nearly three years in and o' boy---what a journey!! I'm a loose curl pattern. I didn't realize how loose until I chose Sisterlocs. Six months after my install COVID hit. I did not see my SL Practitioner for one year. During that time, I taught myself via KZbin University...Thank God for our community--how to retie. With netflix, wine, and my vape (Cali girl). Whew, it was a journey. Fast forward, I now have knots, bunching, slippage--you name it near the end of my locs. I'm a prime example of every consideration for a loose curl pattern mentioned in your video. My Practitioner helped straighten things out and I can now properly retie. This video would have been a godsend as I would not have freaked out with confusion re bunching, slippage, how to correct locs---etc. So, Thank you! Quick question....what are your thoughts regarding adding knots to prevent unraveling of locs for those with a loose curl pattern. Happy Sunday!
@EnToiBeauty2 жыл бұрын
So glad things worked out. As far as knots, I don't encourage them as it hinders the retightening process. Sometimes locs get stuck and snag when you try to pull them thru.

This was such an informative video and provided clear, complete explanations of why your hair does what it does. It would be an excellent video for those folks beginning the loc journey. I have a much better understanding of what has gone on with my hair and what I can continue to expect going forward. I recall my loctitian mentioning that I have a loose curl pattern, but I never understood how it would affect the development of locs. I also realize that I have high porosity hair explaining why I need to moisturize (or at least feel that I need to) my hair daily. I will definitely recommend this to anyone I know who's considering starting a loc journey. Thank you so much.

I watched one other video of yours, and immediately subscribed to your channel. I love how informative you are. I am 8 months in with diy microlocs (2-strand twists w/ interlocking) and I have about a handful of locs that have loc'd, and those are mainly the ones that get wet when showering, since I've learned to leave my hair down so the steam could relax my locs. I think my loose curl pattern is type 4, but my hair is fine, so I've been thinking of trying the saltwater method (1 tsp of seasalt to 1 c of water in a spray bottle). Hopefully it'll speed it along. I love my journey and process but I definitely have HIH syndrome 🤦🏾♀️ and still experience slippage and random unraveling on some. I do use a clarifying shampoo when washing but only wash once every few weeks, and use a spray bottle with leave-conditioner and water almost daily. What would you recommend to help my hair to loc faster?

I know some of us can have multiple curl patterns on our heads in different sections. But do you know about having different texture from root to tip? When I cut my hair short, I was surprised by the texture, because it wasn't as kinky, but as I grew it back out, the texture was more what I was used to coily kinky. A lot of shrinkage, etc. In my loc journey, I have what you described with the marrying at the roots because it seems to be looser, but the length of the loc operates the way you described for the short curl pattern.

Yes, you can have different textures along the shaft of the hair. The root can be one texture while the ends something different.

@ayaimani6062 жыл бұрын
I’ve been waiting for a video like this, thank you! Will tight high porosity hair ever thicken up as much as other textures? Even tho I have somewhat high density (but fine to medium strands), I’m afraid my locs aren’t ever going to look much bigger/fuller than they already are bc of how my hair compacts on itself. I have a little under 200 twists (starter locs) installed about a month ago. I started with about 10 inches of hair. I have a tight curl pattern (4a/b), high shrinkage and high porosity (naturally high porosity, my hair is very healthy- I have no color or heat damage. my hair has always just been like this and multiple beauticians have told me so). I have no slippage which I figured I wouldn’t bc I never did wearing twists in the past. My hair stays in the twists very easily even after washing and wetting. EXCEPT for a very small 3c section in the back. Very silky, loose and soft compared to the rest of my hair. Lots of bunching, lots of slippage. Lots of tangles just like your video says. I already knew that would be the case with that hair. Also even as a loose natural that hair LOOKS fuller even tho it’s not. As a loose natural most if my hair only looked super full when blow dried and/or products to help it stay stretched and swell up (humectants, butters). I’m just thinking with locs it’s won’t have the full look I want.
@EnToiBeauty2 жыл бұрын
Since you started with twist, it will get more compacted and denser. So it will not swell more than what it is. That's if you're interlocking for maintenance.
@mignonetteb16782 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for your videos! So informative. Does curl pattern come into play when it comes to how much or little locks swell?
@EnToiBeauty2 жыл бұрын
Yes it does! Great question
@bornwithclass23652 жыл бұрын
So I have fine strange but very dense hair with very tight curls. I want a very full look. How many locs with you recommend? My previous locs I had 67 and even tho ppl thought I had way more then I did it wasn’t to the fullness I desire.
@EnToiBeauty2 жыл бұрын
Since you want fuller locs, have you thought about getting microlocs with 1/2 inch parting size? That will give you volume (more than what you had) and you'd end up with about roughly 200 locs depending on the size of your head. If you have a small head, the 3/8 inch parting size would be good too.
@tryneedasongs2 жыл бұрын
I loved the information you provided in this video. Your videos have been recommended to me several times so I finally subscribed. Thank you for this video. I started my DIY two strands twist about 5 months ago. Some of the twists are thin & others are small/med. I re-twist the roots. I have never re-tied before bc I really couldn't get the 2/4 point rotations. Do you think I can try the re-tie method since I've been re-twisting or continue with re-twist? How does the crochet re-tie method work?

Love the education you’re providing. I’ll be 2 years in December and because of the frizz I have been thinking of cutting my locks and parting ways. I have loose curl pattern 😔 and some of my ends are thick, I guess that’s due to bunching. So how can I fix the thick ends?
@EnToiBeauty2 жыл бұрын
Oh no! Don't part ways. Please give your hair a chance. Since you're 2 years in, it might still be condensing/compacting. And if that's the case, the frizz will simmer down a bit but it may still be frizzy a bit because of your curl pattern. If the thick ends are soft, you can crochet them to smooth it out, if it's hard then you can cut them. This is what I did for one of my clients who didn't want the fat ends anymore kzbin.info/www/bejne/in-alXajnrBjma8

I also noticed looser curl is more bumpy and lumpy looking when it’s locked I kinda don’t like it that much and that’s the hair type I have. Will that ever change or will it always remain that way I have starter locs with lots of slippage and bunching. I used to get irritated and try to pull my bunching apart because it didn’t look like it was matting correctly or uniformly but now I know why I guess it’s normal from what you explained

I have 4c fine hair that is waist-length and are wanting to start locs. My reasoning is due to my health. I have nerve compression in my neck which makes it difficult to now twist and braid my hair. I have been natural for over twelve years and have not had any kind of heat, NONE on my hair. One other question, my hair and scalp are VERY dry, I use Shea Butter with oils on my hair about two to three times a week, I also either oil my scalp with almond oil (my scalp loves it) or hair grease, can I still use this when I start my journey? I also mist my hair daily with Aleo Vera juice, with a leave-in conditioner, almond oil, and other essential oils. Thanks for any advice I have been trying to watch all of your videos, I have probably watched fifty videos on locs lol! But you seem to make more sense and explain things better, I will sub.
@EnToiBeauty Жыл бұрын
We do not recommend any oils or creamy leave-in conditioners when you start your locs. Once your locs are mature, then you'll have more freedom with oiling your scalp and hair. Whomever you find to lock your hair will be able to guide you more once they see your hair.

Yes! I shared you and am thankful for you sharing so much, the frizzy, i’m thinking at the growth of my hair I’m experiencing more frizzies! I love the natural that’s been me the last 10+ but what’s good for the frizzies? Thanks 6/23/22 7:50 am***

I will definitely so a video for frizz because I get a lot of questions about it and the response is different base on texture and loc maturity. Video coming soon🤗

I have a tight curl pattern my locs are locking at the very top the first 2 inches but no locking below that. Is this how the locking process is supposed to work from top to bottom? I was under the impression it would start to lock evenly all over. I’m 10 months loc’d

My hair is 3a hair and i’m very annoyed because i’ve been told by a lot of black women thati don’t have sisterlocks nor am i loc’d at all because i don’t have thick 4a hair. i constantly have to explain that i’m biracial. so glad you have this to explain this.

Must be the exception because my daughter has a tight curl pattern (4c) no heart damage, no chemicals. She has been loc'd 3 years and her hair is still pretty frizzy. Her ends are the only part that's not close to or fully loc'd. But we did start with 14in hair.

Is there a certain style/size you recommend for loose curled, low porosity, high density hair?

I’m 3c/4a and I did braid locs because I knew coils and two strands was gone fall right on out. Im definitely getting matting roots, bunching ends and hair coming out my braids it’s giving frizz lol im tryna leave it alone and not keep interlocking too soon
@EnToiBeauty Жыл бұрын
What size parts do you have, and how often do you interlock? Usually, the roots start to mat when there's a lot of new growth. And if the ends of your locs are braided to the end, it shouldn't be bunching. But if your ends are open, then it'll bunch up

What about loose curl patterns and low porosity if you use kinky bulk hair extensions ? Does that affect the loc time?
@EnToiBeauty2 жыл бұрын
If used throughout the strand, it will help the locking process. But be very careful with extensions (tension, weight, etc.)

What is a grooming? (You mentioned about the 2:13 mark)
@EnToiBeauty Жыл бұрын
Grooming is when you trim the stray hairs around the loc strand just like the braiders do with braids.

Can you change curl patterns?
@EnToiBeauty Жыл бұрын
There are different things and situations that can alter your curl pattern, but the quick answer is no. You can change it by relaxing it, pressing it, coloring it, or putting a texturizer on it, but your new growth will be the same. Hope that makes sense.

Good Morning ☀️ Not to sure if I got a short or long pattern cause I started my journey with dye but I’m two years in and I still have slippers in the front with the gray and on just one side (left) not a lot but a few and want to color it and my color is blonde so my question Is I guess why can’t I have both how long do you think I should wait asking a professor don’t want red and burgundy????💕 like I said now I still have slippers and two years in and the started dye at the popping off love my locs but listen to you and another lady I’m learning a lot but blonde is the color for me how long???
@EnToiBeauty2 жыл бұрын
You definitely want to wait till your hair is completely locd. I know you may love blonde but your hair may not love the bleach hence why it's breaking. Definitely talk to your consultant to get help as I would need to do a thorough hair analysis to be able to advise you. Whoever, is currently working on your hair would know best. Sorry, I couldn't be more helpful.

Can i cut of the bunching
@EnToiBeauty7 ай бұрын
Yes, you can, but make sure to braid and band before shampooing to prevent the ends from unraveling and bunch up again. You can do braidouts and twist outs to keep the ends from bunching.

I have a question. I have some straight pieces in my hair (they’re hereditary, not heat damaged 🥴). They’re right up front. Any advice for “hiding” those until they begin to lock? They drive me nuts. I just started my microlock journey on Tuesday!
@EnToiBeauty2 жыл бұрын
Welcome to the loc side. I would do twistouts or braidouts to help them blend in with the others.

is this information my loctician will give me during my consultation because I really don't know my pattern or porosity. I think I'm 4a/4b but idk. I know when my hair was short and I wanted Senegalese Twist the girl was worried my braid may slip out but it didn't.

If you never had a bad reaction from a hair dye In the past, do you still have to do the allergy test? Even if it's not the same dye you used in the past.
@EnToiBeauty2 жыл бұрын
That would probably be up to your loctician/stylist.

Is there an interlock pattern that’s better for high porosity 4a/3c (looser curl) hair? When I had Sisterlocs 10+ years ago, I experienced everything you are saying - fluffiness, fuzziness and lots of slippage. Days after a retie, you couldn’t even tell I had a retie. I ended up cutting them - I feel the wrong pattern was being used because my hair is very deceiving, lol. Now that I am considering DIY microlocs, I’m wondering how much of these issues I can avoid with the right pattern.
@EnToiBeauty2 жыл бұрын
Those issues will pretty much be the same because your curl pattern is the same. However, slippage can be prevented/managed. Doing a 4 pattern will help reduce slippage because it's a tighter pattern. Hope that helps💙
