What I really love about this video is that you don’t have to be mega rich to go hiking & wild camping. You don’t have to get all the fashionable gear, the latest and best expensive gear & spend £500 to £800 for the best outdoor tent you can’t possibly afford, after all, nature’s beauty is free. I do except that if you can afford it then you do get better quality and lighter equipment but that shouldn’t stop you going, get what you can afford and get out there and build your equipment up slowly as you get to know what you need. Nice to see you get your kit down to 17.7lbs, as they reckon 20lbs for a woman and 25lbs for a man, although I try to keep my backpack weight down to a women’s weight of less than 20lbs, but then again, I don’t carry make-up (or shaving gear). MASLOWS hierarchy of needs. Food, warmth and shelter. If you can get a good night’s sleep you can face anything the next day.

Hi Kerry, just watched this again, yes loved it for your tips on losing weight on your back, being Mr sensible, I'd say two walking poles, 2 is 1, 1 is none, if it breaks. My big appreciation for you is you mentioned the word ' tampon' respect, yes I'm a bloke but I know what it's all about, my ex had irregular periods so spares were always carried, you are just the first person doing a kit/ packing video that has mentioned this important little item ❤️❤️👍👍☕️

Real lightweight for 2 person tent and roomy as well and the colour very stealthy as well. A hiking pole is a must I find now, takes so much pressure off your knees, hips and back and you seem very well organised, not even going to wonder about the razor . I bought Mrs Metalman one of those Shewees but she has never used it and refuses point blank to 'go' outdoors, resulting in many super fast power walks back to the car...Unbelievable the weight saving you are now making from your WHW trip and to be honest, I would leave the drone, given the forecast. Take care and fingers crossed for good weather for you both 🌞cheers Alan

Oh no! I wish I could hold it in that long but if I need to go I just gotta go so I admire mrs metalman for her abilities lol 😂 yeah I really surprised myself with the weight saving I honestly didn’t realise until I made this video and added it all up! Forecast keeps changing, so still unsure about the drone … I’ll check it again just before we leave and make a split decision 🤗 thanks as always for watching and your continued support 🤗

I used to love a lot of pockets but then kept forgetting where thing were. Instead of lots of pockets why not try loads of different dry bags. I still think that tent it looks amazing. I have never understood everyone that takes loads of pillows I just use my clothes too. That’s an impressive weight you have it sussed. I still carry a 20+kg rucksack and will never learn. Great wee video I love seeing what other people carry. I like the way you included clips from previous videos. Enjoy the slate trail.

Enjoyed that Kerry, always nice to see what other folk carry. I live life on a tight budget as well - managed to get my Osprey Exos 48 rucksack cheap a few years ago and it's served me well, also the 2nd hand market can be invaluable. I use an Atmos 65 for the winter months but it's heavy... got that on the 2nd hand market. The 2 things you can't really skimp on are a good sleeping bag and mat. Impressive weight for your cook system - 280g!! Wow! What make is it? Will defo have to check that out, thank you :) And for the overnight en-suite situation.....I use a screw-top 1L plastic container I bought from Home Bargains for £1, it works a treat, wash it out the next day and you can store your loo roll in there. Yip it's a bit bulky but if you utilise the space when it's not in use then it's doing 2 jobs lol. Kitchen roll is always a must with me, I always pack a half dozen squares - any small spillage and bingo ;) TFS :)

About your rucksack. If you ever find hiking equipment to expensive from regular retailers, try online or high street Army Navy Surplus stores around the U.K. They are not as numerous as they used to be as most have become online stores now, but when you do find a rare bricks and mortar store its like an Aladdins cave of hiking treasures. And its all much cheaper, because its not branded.

Old geezer from Scotland here.Walked some of these trails fifty years ago, great to see people still geting pleasure from them. We used army surplus kit alot. Even had a bush hat in the early seventies some national service kid probably wore in Malaya in the fifties. A lot of the trails we walked,we had travelled on by train as kids. The Glen Ogle Trail is a classlc example. As regards surplus kit,German stuff is usually good quality also Dutch. In saying that Brit kit is worth a look too. But really every nations services have somtehing to offer. There is a few places online, but the guys in Exeter seem to be really'out there'services humour too.
