Long-EZ N916WP - Plasma Cutting 6061 Aluminum Instrument Panel

The building of Long-EZ N916WP. In this video I show the process for plasma cutting my 0.090" thick 6061 aluminum instrument panel. After having test cut multiple 22 ga steel panels to dial in the fit & configuration, this is the final panel that I will use in my flying Long-EZ.

At the end when you lost arc voltage you could have redone the G code file and ran the torch opposite direction and it would cut to the point it went out and finish the cut. Did not think you could refire torch in the same direction on material that's already been cut, Yours seemed to work but I think in Mach3/Proma THC it will lose arc voltage when there's no material in the cut path re running in the same direction

You can block the perimeter to stop all that splashing with scraps. Probably causing your errors.

are you using any special gasses with this process? or just dry air?

Just dry compressor air.

That's the Torch Height Control doing its thing. It touches off each time before each job.

Thanks Bro! You were right, some slight Dremel work on those rough areas and a good clean up and it was ready to go in less than 30 min.

Did you have your water level low for cut quality or fear of gas build up?

No, I didn't have the water set at any level for any particular reason. I had to go back and look to see what level it was in this video... yeah, it probably could have been filled a bit more, but the panel turned out nicely.

You can see it warping like crazy. Should do water jet instead.

I would love to be able to... but this did the job nicely. A little bit of cleaning up around the edges of the holes but the panel came out very nicely IMO.

If good enough is good enough then why bother spending 2 to 3 times the amount? For extreme precision and edge quality, yes go waterjet but, if you don't mind a little clean up it can save you a lot of money.
