An MRI interpretation and pain felt deep into the slightly anterior of shoulder above 60 deg and I was told it's likely a tear of the transverse humeral ligament causing tendon of the bicepsbrachii to climb out of the bicipital groove. Is it possible to reattach the THL? And if not, why? I just learned all this required terminology by watching some really great 3d anatomical animations as well as your explanation.

Thank you for this overview. What is your impression of restoring ability to play tennis without surgery after large long head biceps tendon tear among older patients. Does such tear negativity affect RC Supraspinatus tendon tear enlargement?

Great video! I’m 64 and I have a classic left bicep proximal rupture confirmed by a local orthopedic surgeon (very obvious Popeye muscle presentation). Happened about 3 months ago from likely repetitive activities (freestyle swimming, overhead construction/painting, etc). Steadily self rehabbing based on KZbin University😊. Some residual intermittent irritation, but seems to be lessening over time. My biggest fear is whether I can ever get back to my freestyle swimming routine without further damage? It seems to be my biggest challenge (long overhead arm stretch) so I’m going very easy right now with short, low arm stretch swim sessions. Even using kick fins to further reduce arm loading. I’m assuming I’ll eventually be able to get back to full freestyle capacity if I continue to pace the rehab. Would you agree?

I think I tore mine. Got an MRI yesterday. I did it trying to keep a heavy tree stump from falling over. No poo sound ,or bruising. Just pain and a funny looking bicep. I've worked out all my life and never injured myself. Now because of one stupid mistake, (of not letting go of the tree stump) I think I'm screwed. I want full function back. If I have surgery I'll be out a while and weak afterwards. Is it possible to get strength back to what it was before the tear? I can move my arm around as far as before. But strength is definitely reduced.

What is it called when the Tare is in the middle of the Bicep?
@JohnLee-qo1ls
@JohnLee-qo1ls 4 ай бұрын
The incident happened on dec 28. I had an mri last Thursday and was told that I have a complete tear of the long tendon and that I will gain full functionality after 2 months but would have Popeyes biceps since the tendon is completely torn and no anchor. I asked doctor id like surgery to have the tendon reattached and he advised not to and deal with the loss of anchor(Popeyes biceps). I’m 44 years old and very physically active(basketball and gym 5times a week). I’m glad he mentioned that I’ll regain full functionality but he said I’d have to deal with the aesthetics of the Popeyes biceps. I’d like a second opinion as I’d like to have my bicep anchored and have normal looking. Any professional advice is recommended

Thank you for the video, the explanation was very clear. Is it because of age-related issues that the doctor advised against surgery for my 50-year-old friend? Can a bandage be used for support?
@ClinicalPhysio
@ClinicalPhysio 2 ай бұрын
Quite possibly age related changes to tendon and potentially if there is not a need for significant biceps strength on that side for your friend

What collagen is recommended? My husband is 75 and had a recently had a bicep tenden rupture at the shoulder
@redstarchrille
@redstarchrille 9 ай бұрын
When digested in the stomach, collagen is broken down into amino acids and smaller peptides. So collagen consumed don't magically become new collagen if the body cant produce it to the same extent as young people.

Thank you all for the info. I recently Ruptured longhead. I use my arms every day at work, Glass Blowing. Currently it is sore but not in terribly pain. I am concerned long term without the surgery how strong it will get. Will it adapt to my lifting and swinging glass blow pipes around? Or if I should just source out the surgery and do it. I wear a compression sleeve on it and it seems to reduce the strain.

Hi! Often people to see a reduction in strength without their biceps intact but will still have some residual power from the other elbow flexors/supinators. However I would overall encourage you to have a conversation with your relevant orthopaedic consultant for an idea on how much strength you should expect to retain and whether it is enough for you to achieve your goals

@danemyburgh
@danemyburgh Жыл бұрын
@Abdul Khaliq Abu Bakar If you are unsure about it and uncomfortable then maybe don't. If you have a competent and good surgeon though then I would say go for it. I live in New Zealand and had one of the best surgeons in the country do my surgery so I was quite lucky. 20 weeks post op now and my bicep is feeling strong and my range of motion is nearly back to where it should be. See if you can source a good surgeon to do it for you.
@danemyburgh
@danemyburgh Жыл бұрын
@aralpha1 Like my message to Abdul, I would recommend doing it if you have a good surgeon. It does also depend on what your symptoms are and how it's affecting your day to day life. If you want things to improve or get rid of the core issue then I would elect surgery. I am about 20 weeks post op now and feeling strong with about 90% range of motion back. Still doing rehab exercises to get to 100% but I'm doing good.

Can a compete distal bicep rupture give you problems and pain at the shoulder?

Yes potentially as both the long and short head of biceps have lost their anchor… but not necessarily a guaranteed symptom as a result of the rupture

I'm pretty sure I had a seizure while strapped down. It ruptured my biceps long head. It wasn't that bad until I lost my muscle mass. Trying to build muscle is difficult. The front deltoid is compensating, and gets over worked easily.

Wrong. Your muscles get too strong too fast from steroid use and some tendons through repetitive micro trauma from a lot of overloading rupture or partially tear (when using too much weight the muscles can handle but the tendons cannot).
