Thank you for the compassionate reporting, Vanessa. I just passed those businesses today. From the outside you’d never know what happened just days before. Sad. I hope they all can recover. So glad everyone survived, animal and human, but those financial losses are devastating. They’ll need a lot of help. That area of Commack isn’t near any body of water. Proof of just how much rain fell and how quickly.

Long Island is pretty flat, so if you own a home in a low area on a pretty flat island, you can expect to be flooded in heavy rains or hurricanes. I live on the east end of the island, but my house sits on sandy soil, a short drive between ocean and bay. There wasn't so much as a puddle to be seen on my property after that downpour, but I think, the further west you go, the soil is less sandy...so it doesn't drain as rapidly.

I’ve lived on Long Island all my 52 years and I NEVER EVER seen it rain like that in my life not just rain mind you absolutely down pouring for hours I didn’t think it would ever stop 🛑 and I seen flooding where it never ever flooded before? Uncanny at one point it was raining so hard it looked like a water fall outside my window 🪟 😮that’s when I started worrying 😱 we had for emergency 🚨 alerts for flash flooding WTH? you really only get one ☝🏻 during a really bad storm but four 4️⃣ every hour and where did that storm come from? It wasn’t from that hurricane 🌀 it was miles away from us so it couldn’t have been a ban from it?
