Harry is such a talented actor and still so young. His feelings were so touching as Athelstan and shone through at every stage. I really hope he gets offered some good opportunities at theatre companies like the RSC or some good film roles.

This was fantastic. Thank you for getting this out to the fans. Harry did an amazing job with this character from the very beginning. It is all so bittersweet. I am not sure I will ever find a show that I get so invested in as I have TLK! You guys have made it even more so enjoyable with your talks and your interviews. Thanks again.

Excellent acting by Harry! What’s missing from this packed, location-hopping story are many of the characters we knew and loved from the series. Uhtred’s there with brothers in arms Finan, Sihtric, Father Pyrlig and Aldhelm, but that’s our lot. Hild, Eadith, Uhtred’s daughter Stiorra, Aethelflaed’s daughter Aelfwynn and Queen Aelswith - all carefully preserved to survive the end of the TV show - are missing and their off-screen deaths go unmentioned. It feels abrupt and… callous? The Last Kingdom’s women were always central to it success. Not to give them an ending or barely a namecheck seems like a betrayal. It’s like holding a reunion but only sending out half the invitations. Action packed, though lacking in TLK’s emotion & connection.

Great interview! I loved the last one and this was such a treat. You have great flow and always have thoughtful questions. Harry is such a phenomenal actor. He really breathed life into this character, his mannerisms, his speech, like how he was explaining about how to act out lines this way or that way. He's the reason why I got interested in this show. He did fantastic in the movie. I really liked that they went with him liking men because as he said, it really gives the character depth, and the struggle with his catholic guilt versus liking men was done very well. His relationship with Ingilmundr was also very layered too. Manipulation, especially from someone you love, can totally wreck a person and he had tall hat time with him to really reach into the cracks and settle himself there to influence Athelstan. I think he was even more vulnerable as it (most likely in the movie, but in the book I can't say as I haven't read it) was his first relationship and sexual experience. I agree too that a lot of it was Ingilmundr controlling him. The catholic guilt was such a pivotal part of the film, and it's something that LGBTQ+ do struggle with today of being raised religious and feeling that heavy guilt, I really could sympathize with him like that from my own experiences. I liked how Uhtred in the tent scene had said "I care not for that but for you" and in that moment Athelstan was very vulnerable, so Uhtred once again as a father figure reassuring him was really needed. Harry's facial expressions in that scene were too good. When he looks up after Uhtred says that, you can see his vulnerability and his childlike self appear. It's such a great story to end the series. Even though it was quite rushed, I enjoyed it nonetheless and I 100% agree it gets better the more you re-watch it. I wish the best for Harry.

What amazing charisma Harry infuses into Aethelstan in season 5 - he was leading character material! However, there was such an unexpected and drastic change in him in the movie, that I wondered whether there had not been enough time to detail the reasons for his changes. I'm sorry but I don't buy that it was just a matter of falling in love with the wrong person. In the case of Erik deciding to leave the life of warlord when he fell for Aethelflaed, we got so many little hints before the princess's kidnapping, that Erik was the "mellow" brother, that he disapproved of killing "just for fun", that he was not sadistic or blood-thirsty like Sigefrid, perhaps even too intelligent and "civilised" to be a Norse warlord all his life. So when Aethelflaed came along, we got the feeling she only made him realise what was within him all along - the potential to leave that violent, war-mongering life. On the other hand, in the case of Aethelstan we don't see what happens to him between the end of Season 5 and the the start of the movie. All we know is that he discovers love with a very ambitious and slippery Dane pretending to have embraced the Saxon way. Suddenly, he is simply no longer the Aethelstan we remember, but an uncharacteristically violent and ruthless version of him - just like that, and we're supposed to accept the tenuous reasons for which that happens. I get that Ingilmundr was using guilt to manipulate him, but the guilt was not actually tangible to me. Aethelstan didn't seem guilty, he just seemed far more cruel than he'd ever been. I think I would have accepted the changes in his character if the movie had explored them a little more, showed us more introspection and insight into his internal development and maybe fewer minutes of battle scenes. All in all it was a good movie and I enjoyed its visuals and atmosphere, which made up for a slightly rushed story.

The topic keeps coming up of what you'll watch/review next... I think it makes so much sense to do Vikings. I know Vikings is old now, but I would still love to see your take on the show and characters and then you move into and keep up with Vikings Valhalla as those seasons continue to be released. And that show I believe will end in a similar way to TLK with the birth of England as we now know it with William The Conqueror coming in and ending the Viking age. Would love to see you guys review that show.

Also, the viking era is always portrayed to make us feel sorry for the Anglo-Saxons having their country taken ofer. I would loooove to see Netflix or someone do a series portraying the Angles, Saxons and Jutes invading England after they hear the Romas have left and taking over from the Britons. And their whole transition from pagan to Christian, that would make for great watching! But also looking forward to a good King Arthur series 👌

@thescreenchronicles

@@thescreenchronicles That's a ridiculous thought for Aethelstan to have...that only means that he was feeling guilty about it which he should if he was a true Christian. Any Christian would know homosexuality is a sin. I'm not saying that we are all perfect, but that was one of my hang-ups about him. I guess they just wrote that in there bc Aethelstan never married & had no children so they assumed he was homosexual.
