These shows are always so beautiful, so full of feeling and empathy and joy. I can't see enough of them! The reunions are always so touching and beautiful, but there's always a moment of sadness for me. This should never happen to families. These poor women who find themselves pregnant and without a partner, being forced to give up their baby because they can't afford to feed and care for him/her. They always do it with love in their hearts, hoping and believing that they are doing the most generous thing by giving their child to someone who will love and raise him/her in a much better life. If only a way could be found to have more open adoptions where the birth mother could remain on the fringes of her child's life - maybe by annual update and photo from the adoptive family. Instead, these mothers go 20, 30, sometimes 50 years without knowing if their child even survived, let alone was happy and well loved. That is a very long time to spend every single day thinking of that child, wondering where they are, are they happy, are they healthy?

The “what happened next” episode on this is fabulous. It’s portrayed as awful because of what happens to the younger brother (no spoilers... that’s all I’ll say!). But for his older sister to be there to love and support him... it’s fabulous. I don’t mean to make light of the bad things that happened, but my point is... the timing here was perfect. JUST when he needed family, his younger sister steps in. As I said, it’s portrayed as sad and tragedy in the followup, but frankly, I think it’s a beautiful story from the angle of this series. The reunion could quite have literally saved his life. He’s a delicate soul. Who knows where his life would’ve spiraled. But he had his new-found sister. It’s just thoroughly fantastic.

I’m in the US and can’t manage to find this update anywhere on the internet for me to watch. Would you mind sharing what happened??
@millwx3 жыл бұрын
@@kw1535 spoiler alert for anyone else (read no further)…. The younger brother, after all of his troubles in life, had both of his adopted parents die in relatively short succession. It must’ve been incredibly devastating, especially with his birth parents already gone. But I still found the story heartwarming, because the sister was there to love and support him the whole way. They seem closer than ever. And imagine this poor guy having to go through that horrific situation without any other family support. Given his fragile state the poor guy likely would’ve ended up institutionalized or suicidal. But with his new sister by his side, he’s managing well. This whole thing could, quite literally, have saved his life. It’s weird. The episode actually presents this as an incredibly sad story. I get it. His parents died. You don’t want to portray that lightly or as anything less than tragic. But it’s the result of this show… his reunion with his sister… that is allowing him to successfully navigate this part of his life. So, I actually found it heartwarming and uplifting. And because his life might have literally been saved by this, I also find this to be one of the most successful stories in the whole LLF series. There are some other great ones, but in terms of the actual impact? A life might’ve been saved here. Look at how fragile this guy is in this episode. Now imagine both of his parents dying. Can you fathom how he would’ve responded without his sister there to catch him? As I said… perhaps the most impactful reunion in the entire LLF franchise.
@kw15353 жыл бұрын
@@millwx you are a gem!! I think you’re absolutely right. What a serendipitous thing that she came into his life when she did. I hope he continues to heal from the trauma and that she’s there to support him. Thank you for taking the time to write this!!
@millwx3 жыл бұрын
@@kw1535 it really is a fabulous story. My only complaint is that they preface it as a bad story. I get it. His adoptive parents passed. That’s devastating. But from the perspective of the connection the show made, it’s spectacular. I would literally, no joke, fear for this guy’s very life if he had no support system. You’ve seen the original episode. You saw how fragile he is. Imagine him losing the only two parents he’s ever known. This poor guy has, I hate to say it out loud, suicide written all over him. His newfound sister may have very literally saved his life. Sorry, I’m repeating myself, but I find this to be perhaps the most profoundly heartwarming follow-up stories ever presented on LLF. We’re possibly, literally talking about a young man’s life being saved. Yet, LLF presents it as a negative story (they intro it as one of those stories that doesn’t always work out as wonderfully as you’d hope). It is, in fact, perhaps the most wonderful followup story they’ve ever presented. This fragile, dare I suspect - suicidal, young man gets saved by the overwhelming support and love from his newfound sister. You couldn’t ask for a more beautiful story.

The thing that strikes me about the woman who wanted her boyfriend to leave his wife and kids for her . . .doesn't she ever stop and think that she would be completely destroying another woman's happiness, another set of boys and girls who would be losing their daddy, experiencing the life-long heart ache of divorce-abandonment were she successful in breaking up their home??? When did selfishness to this degree ever become ok in our society? People are acting/commenting like there is no human wreckage if this woman had her way.

Keep in mind Elizabeth was a 16 year old young girl having relations with a very experienced married man who had left his wife & children for HER. I'm not condoning her behavior whatsoever, but this man left his whole family to create a new one with a TEENAGER! Her parents even knew about this affair and helped her support her daughter Janice. Yes she got her karma tenfold, and it was him leaving her to reconcile with his wife & family and putting up their illegitimate child for adoption. In my opinion, she received her "punishment" waiting 55 years to finally have her "family unit" back. This is a sad situation across the board, but I honestly feel a young girl was taken advantage of & manipulated by an older man.

I’m sure he was thinking he had it all-a wife and kids at home and a girlfriend on the side for a little bit of a change in the bedroom and then after she gave birth a second time he thought “oh damn, I better get out before there’s a third one”. They both have the morals and the restraint of an alley cat.

My colleague spent thousands of dollars on private detectives trying to locate her birth mother. Once located, the woman wanted nothing to do with the daughter she had put up for adoption. As it turns out my colleague was raised by wonderful, loving adoptive parents, she was well educated, and she enjoyed a very good life. Certainly there are circumstances that are not shown by the producers where this is the case, but I find these productions to be wonderful.
@singtweetypie6 жыл бұрын
I have a friend who located her birth mother as well - and the mother did not want to meet her. I think often times, it is because the birth mother had never shared the secret with their own family - and the shame of it being discovered years later would be too much for them to handle. I think it very much depends on the era and societal views at the time of the birth as well. The other thing one has to consider was the pregnancy might have been as a result of a rape or incest - or a one night stand. Not all girls end up pregnant because they are in love - and I think this very well might be why they do not want to meet the child.
@nomebear5 жыл бұрын
@@singtweetypie For my colleague's family there was more sadness in store. She died while at work from a burst artery, a genetic birth defect that may have been intercepted had she known something about her biological family, or not. We worked in a transplant hospital, and she had it set up that her organs would be donated. She now lives on by providing lives for others. Life's journey has such twists and turns.

@@nomebear How very tragic. I am very sorry for you, your colleague and her family. One of the LLF stories I watched was exactly about this type of issue..where finding the family helped avert an early death because of a known genetic illness. There are lots of reasons to want to find family, and this is certainly an important one. I would prefer to think in your friend's case, that the mother did not know about the genetic birth defect, or surely she would have passed that important piece of information on. She may have had her own reasons for not wanting to meet her child, but cannot believe she would be cruel. The other possibility is that the genetic defect was on the father's side, and she did not know.
@nomebear5 жыл бұрын
@@singtweetypie Thank you for your kindness, I also prefer to think that the biological mother was unaware of the genetic defect which may have been on the father's side.
