Great shooting Randy, I have had the 6.5x55mm for many years and love it. I did build a .260 rem when everyone was raving about it and while it's very accurate the Swede really shines through at 1200yds and further, still my go to calibre unless I'm feeling flush and shoot the .50bmg.

As a huge fan of 6.5 x 55 Swedish, I'm sad I can only give one thumb up to this video!!! I would love to know his reloading specs, over 3,100 fps is impressive!

3100 isn't hard to do for the swede, but it is definitely NOT a safe load to shoot in a sweedish mauser action.
@randyori76578 жыл бұрын
Keep in mind, the Swedes were not dumb. Old Swedish Mausers are made of Nickel, vanadium, and high strength tool steel. They are plenty stout. The only reason everyone says they can't be hot-rodded, is because the internet spread the rumor that the small ring Mausers can't handle pressure as well as the large ring Mausers. Believe me, the Swedish Mausers can handle about anything you put in them. Plus, the 29" barrels, and 1:7.5" twist will stabilize the heavies easily. All load data that's published for the Swede, is extremely anemic, due to the original cartridge being chambered in the Norwegian Krag rifles, which only have one locking lug. Every rifle is different, so it's best to work up your own load recipe, paying particular attention to pressure signs, but it's not uncommon to see a 100 year old M96 Swede push the 140s at well over 2900.

@@richardakers9167 nonsense. small ring mausers are just as tough as large rings.

@@frigglebiscuit7484 They are, but they do not have the benefit of the 3rd locking lug, or the ability to port gas from a ruptured case away from your face like a 98 does.

the 6.5 swede is the best 6.5 out there,, i have 3 of them,better than the 6.5 creedmore,unless your are using a semi-auto,,,the old swede leaves the creedmore in the dust,,,almost as good as the 6.5x284 which i also use,,,,,if your running a bolt action,, get the swede,,,,,

@@s.f.n.641 It's better for pressure and speeds as long as you get a barrel long enough but creedmoor is way more available and takes less powder it all depends on you barrel life isn't that much more then creedmoor though but it's a great 6.5

LRSU recently did a review of the video, to see which shot actually connected with the jug. Everyone that reviewed it, agreed that shot #2 was the one that connected. It hit on the shoulder, through the jug, backer, and deflected to the right, making it appear as a miss from that distance. On shot #3, the jug appears to have drained. This might be an explanation, why after shot #2, I adjusted a half MOA left, thinking I was wide right. The next consecutive shots all hit left of the target. Perhaps I was dialed in for the first two shots, and then adjusted when it wasn't needed (over thinking?). What is your opinion? Please review and comment on what shot you think was the winner.

With that velocity out of the 6.5mm barrel, do you think it has a shorter life?
@LongRangeShootersofUtah6 жыл бұрын
iamnitrox yes it does. Any time you had more powder burn & pressure behind the same diameter hole you’re going to see throat erosion happen more quickly.
@LongRangeShootersofUtah6 жыл бұрын
Barrel life is a function of the amount of powder being burned (case capacity) and the diameter of the case opening (caliber). The more powder and the smaller the diameter the more heat & pressure will be present and direct at the lands (ends of rifling). A 308 has a mild case capacity and a large diameter opening by comparison so barrel life is long st 5000-8000 rounds, 6.5 creedmoor has roughly the same capacity but a smaller opening resulting in 2500-4000 rounds of life. Neck that same case down to 6 mm and life drops to 1500-2500 rounds. The Swede has more capacity than the creedmoor and if loaded hot you would assume that barrel life would be reduced. Load pressure and a million other things like the rate of fire also play a role. A really hot load can result in half the barrel life than a mild load of the same cartridge.
