Ever thought that you may need some more fuel to get you further. 37's don't help adn I like towing a big van too. Don't bother stuffing around with Jerry cans, watch this install and I'll walk you through how to bolt up a LRA long range tank, go through why I chose 120L instead of 155L and review at the same time.
If you love your Y62 Patrol's, be sure to find the FaceBook group "Y62 Patrol Modified Action" its a place to ask questions, show of your rig and where its been, and be part of our Y62 community. See you over there!

Really nice add-on! Since I was a kid I've always loved that "sleeper" look - no obvious signs of mods..and that 120Ltank certainly achieves that!

I have a 134L replacement LRA tank on the Defender. It’s brilliant quality and like you said just can’t notice it unless you go looking

Hi Dave, great video, would it not be better for towing and travelling if you could set this up for the engine to use the rear tank first then use the main tank. This would also be great encase you cracked your main tank. Is the main fuel pump in the main tank? You may need to instal an extra pump and transfer solenoid to make this work but mod would be worth it. Keep up the great work and informative videos.

Dash also if your transferring and put more into the front tank it will just recirculate it’s self back up through the filler.. looking at my 150 LRA I wish I’d gone smaller, have belted the bejesuss out of it..

Hey Dash So how does filling up the original tank go now? You still getting back pressure, and having to go back to servo next day to top up or can you fill both tanks up fully? Cheers

Hi David, With the original subtank out now, will you be looking at a solution for the back pressure issue not being able to filling up fully for us blokes having issues filling up or is our something we will have to live with ? Great video though. 👍👍👍 Cheers

Hey, the original sub tank still remains, so I have 100L+40L+120L all up. It will be interesting to see if the back pressure problem is any different, I’m thinking it will probably be the same unfortunately

Wow so you get roughly 5km/l (not towing) after all those mods. That's actually quite good.

QX80’s are pretty rare over here so couldn’t say for sure. It should be very similar though. I bet you could get it to work. Limiting factor will be which tow bar you have

I have series 4 the 2015 model currently I fitted ARB bull bar and a rack with 33" tyres but my consumption went significantly high I get around 420km only. Any suggestions how to tackle this issue. I'm planning on Europe trip in few months and I'm worried about the consumption. Thanks Dave for all your reviews I've learned a lot and bcause 9f your videos I decided to turn my y62 from daily work car to an overland. Thanks..

I thought it would be interesting to compare fuel use by weight for each vehicle so I did a spreadsheet with the three sets of numbers you guys have given and, for comparison I tossed in my wife's forester turbo. The Y62 with trailer (3t), the Y62 without trailer, the 80 series with trailer(2.5t). I've taken the tare mass of each vehicle, added 500kg for accessories, like bars, recovery gear, roof etc.(not the forester - nothing on it) and a further 250kg for payload (a couple of passengers and gear). Very interesting results! The 80 series with trailer gives 3.9L/100km per ton (1000kg), the Y62 with trailer: 5.8l/100km per ton, Y62 without trailer 6.6l/100km per ton and the forester (no trailer) 6.5l/100km per ton. The big difference is between the Y62 with trailer and the 80series with trailer - something like 40% more fuel efficient! According to wikipedia modern petrol engines regardless of make, size are all around the same efficiency, somewhere between 20% - 35%, and for an LS3, Nissan V8 and forester 4 turbo, I expect efficiency differences to be minor so Steven, your air drag on the 80+van must be far superior to Dash's Y62+van. My guess is you run a low profile caravan behind the 80 series without much air drag?? while Dash runs a full height caravan. I can't think of any other main factors to explain the huge difference between the two rigs in l/100km per ton results. The other thing to note is that the caravan in tow actually improves the economy *per ton* of a rig. (Dash's went from 6.6l/100 per ton without trailer to 5.8l/100km per ton with trailer). I guess that is to be expected - that is why trains (rail or road) are so much more efficient than individual vehicles to fuel.

My caravan length is all up 8.6 m long with a simplistic suspension on it I have heard other people using more fuel with the LS Motors I also toe at about 80 km 90 km and I tow in 5th gear not six
@BenMitro
@BenMitro 4 жыл бұрын
@@stevenslade656 Thanks for the extra info Steven. 80 to 90km /hr explains a fair chunk of the savings, as energy required to overcome drag is 64% at 80km/h of the energy required for 100km/h. I don't think the length of the rig makes much difference (I'm sure it makes some difference but small), more so the protrusion above the roof line and the sides of the 80 series. (That is the actual additional area facing the wind). Do you reckon the LS3's are much more efficient than comparable V8's? (I have a sneaking suspicion they are). If so, Y62 owners take note!!!
