from my knowledge Terre Verte is pigment PG23. It. is a natural earth pigment derived from clay coloured by iron silicate. However it has a low tinting strength. I pressume larger companies (like W&N and daniel smith) create their paint with other pigments to match the hue of Terre Verte. This allows for a darker, richer colour that wouldn't otherwise be achieved with the earth pigment :)

Hi Alyona, Really lovely mixes! It's wild how malachite will shift that much off the original swatch. It really shows more brownish yellow. Off subject, you'd mentioned in one of your chat videos about your affinity for languages. I've been trying to decide between several. I've had two reasons for hesitation;1 is not knowing if I should use traditional classes, a program like Rosetta stone or an app like babble. 2. Deciding between a practical language vs learning French. LoL 🤣 I'm curious if you used any programs or would recommend a certain structure. I'd appreciate any tips I can research.

Thanks! ☺️ Back then I either learned with tutors or books and cds sets I’d buy at a big bookstore. Personally I learned best from a physical text books and practice talking to natives. These days I guess you could go for a run or to the gym and listen to audio. 🧡

@@AlyonasWatercolourCreations Thank you for sharing your experience. I'll look into tutors and classes in my area. My biggest concern with using something like Rosetta Stone was not having a native speaker to speak with. There does seem to be a lot of technology available so much so it's hard to know what programs are really good and which are rubbish with good marketing.

I may be wrong, but I think the PBr7 in the Terre Verte mixes may be the green earth pigment itself, not a brown. I have the sennelier version, which is a yellow shade, and it is a single pigment PBr7. I also have Rare Green Earth from DS and there is no indication of pigment in my tube, only mineral pigment, but it’s the very same colour in the mixing book.

Maybe the multiple pigment versions have the green added to the natural green earth pigment because it is very very light on its own.

I just looked up the Schmincke Green Earth that’s the one that is a lot lighter and yellower. It has Earth Pigment PBr7 and Phthalo Green PG7. But in DS Terre Verte that’s close to the book swatch, there is Viridian PG18 and Raw Umber PBr7. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I guess there are different tones and hues of Terre Verte. 🧡
