In the late 60's I drove a W model day cab for S. J. Nudelman in Portland Oregon. One load of steel cuttings to the Hanna Nickle mine in Riddle Or. every day. It had 220 with a tri-plex Mack trans. He also had a B75 Mack with a 220 and a tri-plex. That was the one I drove most of the time.

When I was a kid in the early sixties these were still a common sight on the roads. In third grade they would roll up to the traffic light in front of my school and my friend Johnny and I would jump up on our chairs and see who could identify the make and model first, much to the consternation of our teacher. I became a truck driver and have actually driven a 250 Mack c.o. with a 12 inch flame coming out of the stack. I got a slight reputation up and down the 95 East Coast corridor for a short time because of that. Bad valve I think. Macks were always my favorite truck. You have done a fine job on that old W !

I too am of similar vintage. I could ride in Autocars on day trips to L.A. I would identify most every make of truck on the road. The newer trucks had Cummins 220s one had a 250. When the co. bought a Mack B cab the owner couldn’t find any of his drivers to drive it. Because the Brownie shift lever was on the wrong side. The truck yard backed up to hiway 99 (now I10) . I would be amazed at the flame coming out of the stack at night. It now reminds me of the lyrics to “6 Days on the Road”.Then came turbos.

Drove one, (65 Peterbilt) with a 275 back in the early 80's. I would be pulling Pacheco Pass and guys would tell me "hey, your on fire"! I would ask "what color is it"? If it was blue she was running right! Had to watch it though, easily melted down. Your right foot would dictate how long your engine would last.

Wow 😮 you did an outstanding restoration on the old W-omen 71 I really like how you painted it the original shade of Mack green and boy o boy how nice the engine sounded when you put your foot into it and the sweet sound of the jake. I never was in either the W or H models but did drive a couple F model Mack’s. You also shift it like you’ve been doing it all your life. Good luck and long lives for you and all your old toys

Unlike other manufacturers, Mack always put the Brownie lever closest to the driver(to the left of the main box lever)

Nice Truck. I worked & drove for Mack for 30 years. I didnt start till the 70's tho~ That Cummins sure sounds sweet. Thanks for the reminder! BTW I was privileged enough to drive some of Macks experimental trucks. throughout my stint with Mack.

We always took the Cummins out of our trucks and used Mack engines. Mack had better torque on our concrete trucks.

I have been a mechanic all my life and I have a problem with someone putting it together without a mic and plastigage. Long ago I drove a 'B" model with a "5" and "duplex"
