42 years OTR...so good to see many of the old companies that are no more! And how those old Farmalls with leaf springs and fixed fifth wheels used to beat the snot out of us....

I grew up around these trucks. My father was a diesel mechanic and truck driver. He thought me to work on them and drive them when I was very young. I went on to become a diesel mechanic my whole life. Recently hung up the wrenches and now I'm an owner operator. My father passed due to covid. I hope I made him proud. This is brought tears to my eyes remembering the old man

O-H-I-O Porter greetings.🇺🇸I always enjoy your videos. Cabovers Rule! The wrecks are hard to handle though. My dad bought a new 1969 K100 with the typical red/white/black/gold scheme. I was about 5 years old & was incredibly fascinated with the truck. I was able to climb up into the truck & would take a nap in the bunk. He always knew where to find me. It was a place I felt safe at least. My oldest brother was the driver. I’m not sure if it had a Cummins or Detroit. It came out of a garage & caught fire coming down I 64 in KY. My brother jumped out & the truck burned to the rails. I cried my eyes out when my dad took me to see it. I’ve loved cabovers since then! Trucking was quite different back then, even with the strikes! The truckers were, too. You could make some good money. I got out of trucking for a few years. I regretted it the whole time! I now own 3 trucks & 1 more on the way. My dad started Truckin in the 1930s, helping his brothers with jobs, passing the torch to his sons. He helped companies to start in the area & employed many drivers over the years. I grew up around some of these rigs & heard many stories from the drivers. It’s a hard life, but a rewarding life. Trucking has been in my blood & no transfusion can take it out! Blessings my trucking friends!🥰😎✌️

Thank you for these colorizations, I got wet eyes watching and recalling the times I spent on the road as a young boy with my uncles and grandpa. I saw many of these rigs in real life. 26 yrs out here now and I still get giddy when I see an old marmon or 359.

Back in the 70s my dad used to get the Overdrive magazine delivered in the mail. Me and my younger brother couldn't wait for the new issue. The last pages were always pictures of a pair of new trucks one conventional and one cab over.

My last truck was a 1979 k100 Kenworth. It had a 300hp Cummins, a 9 speed transmission, a single sleeper, and I made good money with it. Trucking was different back then. I don't want a late model truck at all. I no longer want to truck either.

I was a diesel mechanic back in the 60s and up to the 90s. I worked on probably 96 percent of all them shown. I retired from mechanic from arthritis and started driving otr. Was otr for 25 years. So I drove the old school trucks and this new crap they call a truck. The only thing they did right was install air ride on the suspension and cabs. Other than that, give me my old truck. They had all the big horse engines back then also, the K T Cummins, 1693 cat, 3408 cat, dirty dozen. And some of the dirty dozens had twin turbos on them. Natural aspartate we're up to 850 horse, so just imagine n80 or n90 injectors. Any how, I could go on and on about the days of old in working on and driving. Just can't replace them old beauties.

These are all from back in time, when the US was still on the way up. We drove our own trucks, used CB Radios, and there was a sense of comradery. Now we have given away the whole industry. There are 6 languages being spoken and no one even has a CB radio. It's hammer down into the fog. I just retired from 46 years of driving and am embarrassed and disgusted of that career choice and don't want to be associated with any of them. But these pictures do bring back some good memories.

Speaking of back in the day , I remember pulling into the 76 in El Paso for fuel in the warm months and a girl in Daisy Duke's and a bikini top would push the ladder over in front of the truck and wash the windshields after she put the nozzles in the tanks . 😁... Back when TS operators appreciated and respected Drivers , and the rest of the motoring public did also because we showed THEM respect...

When men were truly proud to be gearjammers. I remember my uncles and grandpa dressed in pressed jeans, tucked button up shirts, cowboy boots and man did they look sharp. Those men pissed excellence. Now it's pajama pants and flip flops, shameful.
