Long run network - Cat6 vs fiber cable

The distance of TCP/IP network is limited to 328ft by using the cat5e or cat6 cable. While the distance is beyond 328ft between two WiFi routers, we need to have some extension solution or we can just use the fiber optical cable to set up the link. In this video, you will see both methods to run the network beyond 328ft. You can use the PoE extender plus PoE injector for cat6 cable running. Single PoE extender can repeat another 328ft. The fiber optical cable can run up to 10km without any extension solution. However, you have to place the media converter to convert the signal to electronic before it can attach to the router on both ends.

PoE ports will detect the edge device. If you connect PoE compatible device such as PoE ip camera, PoE access point, the switch should release the power unless you have shut down the PoE feature manually.

You just need to look for the SFP module with LC port. The LC type is quite popular as the compact size which will save the space in the rack.
