As a healthcare worker for over 22 years, and science fiction writer, once asked a Doctor friend of mine what he thought about the possability of parasitic infections contributing to personality disorders. And he was very excited to engage in that conversation, as he had been studying that subject for many years. Hailing from a country with a less developed healthcare system, he had expirienced many phsychological disorders in poor people with severe parasitic infections. Without getting into to much detail, he assured my inquiry to be very true, as well as my fear of parasites. I think doctors should correctly diagnose mental illness, but also look into the cause. As killing a parasite may be quicker than a lifetime of disabeling medications, and institutionalization. And wouldnt that also be much cheaper to treat?
@parvez71065 ай бұрын
I agree. Recently diagnosed with a glioma. Was wondering how that even happened. I just read a few days ago, that Toxoplasma, can cause brain cancer, especially gliomas. I grew up with lots of cats and two dogs. I'm guessing I could have had a parasitic infection that didn't show any symptoms, until the tumour itself started to make its presence felt. There could be something here. It could explain why some cancers go away with anti parasitic meds.

Your doc refers you to a psychiatrist for your symptoms. Your psychiatrist doesn’t check for hidden infections or address your diet and lifestyle. Your psychiatrist prescribes you a drug to cover up your symptoms. This drug causes your more symptoms requiring another drug to over up the new symptoms. You are promised that you just need to find the right cocktail of drugs to put you back in balance. So you keep trying different drug combinations but never find wellness and your mental symptoms get worse. You are told that your condition is progressing yet it’s the toxic prescription drugs that are damaging your brain. All of this goes on and the root cause of your illness was never addressed. And so the story goes. 🐈

A lot of cat comments, I really hope most are jokes. Just need to clarify, one, a cat doesn't necessarily have toxoplasmosis. Especially if they're indoor only. Two, even if your cat does have toxoplasmosis, you won't necessarily get infected unless you don't clean after handling the litter. Three, even if you have toxoplasmosis, these symptoms are tendencies and averages. They are correlations and not direct consequences of infection. There are many, many more factors in the conditions mentioned here (a lot of which are much more significant factors. Example with schizophrenia genetic predisposition is a vastly more important factor).There is a vast misunderstanding of this video in the comments below.
@bicycleetc94365 жыл бұрын
The most common way to get infected with this virus is by eating not fully cooked meat. Bear that in mind. If your cat is infected, you can have a vet treat it with the right antibiotics... Only about 30% of pets are infected. One way to keep your cat from being infected is to fully cook the meat it eats, and to keep it from hunting outdoors. Also, keep it indoors. Curious why this was not mentioned.

At one time, i rescued a stray cat who was born to a momma cat who ran away from a crazy cat lady with 50 stray cats she had lured home, so risk of toxoplasmosis high (the hunting, the feces laying about, the wide territory the cats came from increases the risk). My cat was indoor /outdoor, a hunter, i scooped the litter, i had never heard of toxoplasmosis. Also, as a child, i played with farm cats on my grandparent's farm. Also hunters, which increases the risk of tozoplasmosis. When i got pregnant, they told me about the risk to the fetus of toxoplasmosis infection, but only the initial infection is a risk. Then your body makes antibodies, and keeps the virus under control. So we tested to see if i had toxoplasmosis antibodies in my blood. I did not. So i had never been infected. So i carried on taking care of my cat, being more careful to be sanitary, though i had always been sanitary, except when i wss a young child on the farm. My first cat was wild and bit me many times, but i loved that wild cat. Also i've had many scratches that bled. Also, i'm a nail biter. And i sleep with my cat(s). My cats are usually spoiled and walk on the kitchen table and counters, though i tell them to get down. I'm not a clean freak by any means. Still, not infected. (Am kind of schizo, though. Must be something else). Over the years, I've had many indoor/outdoor cats, I love cats, although i now just have 1. But, just because you have a cat doesn't mean you have toxoplasmosis.
