Well analyzed. In earlier times it was indeed difficult as there was very little information about companies and promoters and the absence of regulations were indeed a minefield to surmount as compared to now where things have improved phenomenally. In such a scenario identifying and holding shares of companies for long periods was a lottery.

Basically he is saying that this is because of financial psychology and also the impossibility to predict the future. The best answer for a novice or a professional is to buy a low cost index fund . But in India so many fund houses are bought and sold you don’t know which fund house will last long term . Vanguard one fund VOO which is S&P index fund has over a trillion dollars just in this fund .

Its very easy to stay invested if you don’t discuss every investment with your wife. There are 50 other things to talk about. I have managed to not sell except on fundamentals for 12 years now
