Regarding rainfall, November and December are likely to see below-average precipitation in most regions, especially in Punjab and Sindh. Cold wave conditions may dominate these months, with cooler-than-usual daytime temperatures, particularly in areas prone to fog and smog. The Seasonal Agro-Climate Outlook for October - December 2024, issued by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), indicates that the country will experience below-normal precipitation in most areas, particularly in upper & central Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir. In contrast, normal to slightly above normal rainfall is expected in Sindh, southern Punjab, and Baluchistan.

October 2024: Near-normal precipitation is expected across the country, except for slightly below-normal rainfall in Gilgit Baltistan, AJK, and adjoining areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
November 2024: Below-normal rainfall is predicted in upper & central Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir. However, normal rainfall is expected in Sindh, Baluchistan, and south Punjab.
December 2024: Mostly normal to slightly below-normal precipitation is anticipated in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan, and nearby Kashmir regions. Sindh and Baluchistan are expected to receive near-normal rainfall.
Temperature Outlook:
Above-normal mean temperatures (1-2°C) are likely across most parts of the country, especially in Gilgit Baltistan, Kashmir, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and upper & central Punjab during October and November 2024.
December 2024: Above-normal temperatures are expected throughout the country.
Advisories for Farmers:
Due to the above-normal rains during the monsoon season, reasonable soil moisture is available for sowing of upcoming Rabi crops. However, soil moisture stress may develop from October to December 2024 due to expected below-normal precipitation.
Isolated showers/hailstorms could disrupt the harvesting of Kharif crops, particularly in the northwestern parts of the country.
A gradual drop in temperature and the chance of snowfall in upper regions might also affect agriculture activities.
Water availability for irrigation will be ample in the upper half of the country. However, judicious use of water is advised, particularly in the lower half of the country.
