Hello Marcu and lots of greetings from a german Africa Twin (RD04) - driver, sorry for my english is not the best. Thanks a lot for sharing your experiences in this film with the public.. I enjoyed the movie and I have lot respect for you driving such dangerous roads. I would never do this, anyway I am much too old for such adventures. So I better stay in the Alpes, in Italy, Austria, Switzerland and France. Thank you once more. Stefan.

Hi Marcu, and greeting from Canada. Had to laugh at your comments about there being no rules when driving in Morocco. I spent a month touring Morocco January of 2011 on a VFR 800 where I camped along the ocean and stayed in cheap hotels. The cities are absolute chaos with traffic and many a blind corner with traffic in my lane. I loved Morocco for its diverse landscapes of desert, green valleys, ocean views and gracious people. Good job on the trip and the video. Thanks for sharing!

@Hard Facts I love to ride motorcycles as well as bicycles. I did not crash my motorcycle, in fact i just completly rebuilt her with a new engine and new suspensions this year :) I did the Cairo to Cape Town trip in late 2016 and 2017 with my bicycle becouse i simply love to cycle and it was simpler, cheaper and i met more people and get to really know them this way. I`m not married, but my girlfriend stayed back home on this trip, she camed only in Dar Es Salaam and Zanzibar for two weeks and than she flew back home :) Anyway, after comming back home i went again on some trips with my motorcycle, and than again with the bicycle, i love to ride them both :)

Great journey! I was staying at the same auberge in Chinguetti, so it's fun to see this footage now :). One thing bothers me, though: are you sure this is Nouakchott (the capital in the South of Mauritania), and not Nouadhibou (the city in North, less than 100 km from the border)? Otherwise, a big chunk of the way is not included in the video, I guess.
@BikeInAfrica5 жыл бұрын
The footage is from Nouackchott, we actually went only on the return journey to the outskirts of Nouadihbou just to fill up the tank with our last ouquiyas, so we don`t have any images from there ... Anyway from the border to Nouackchott is all a desert and a flat road ... i didn`t want to bore to death anyone including the whole thing :)

Maybe I missed something, but....why and how did you get a 'new bike?' Also, was there any particular reason you decided to go back home rather than keep going? Was your wife/girlfriend coerced into wearing the Moslem scarf? Wonderful filming of a part of the world I'll probably never see. I ride a 1972 Triumph TR6R Tiger...great bike and 'one kick.' Have you read Ted Simon's, 'Jupiter's Travels?' What a marvelous trip he did in 1973 on a Triumph T100S around the world via Africa from London. My English friend, Mark Bell, came to the US to do the Trans America trail on an Africa Twin from eastern US to West Coast....his website was 'markincyberspace.com. He rendezvoused with his wife in Oregon (He began in Tennessee, I believe) and they continued down to the tip of Chile and then back home to England. That Africa Twin must be some great bike. Thanks much for the travelogue and all the best to Romania.
@BikeInAfrica6 жыл бұрын
Hello! The Honda Africa Twin odometer goes up only to 99999 km and after that it reads again 00000 km, so practicaly my odometer tells me that the bike is brand new :) on the other hand, my bike has already over 240.000 km so far and the engine still goes strong :) I wished that time to go further but my girfriend had to go back to work, and travelling with your vehicle in africa is pretty expensie, especially with CDP (carnet de passage en douane). Nonetheless i went back in Africa and i did the big journey : Cairo to Cape Town, but with my bicycle. You can see my other videos from Africa with the bike ;) None forced my gf to wear that scarf, but we find it polite to respect the people beliefs when you are in their country. Didn`t read that book yet, but i will check it out ;) Thanks a lot and i also wish you the best ;)
@chicoesqualia70616 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply, Marcu. We all love motorcycles and travel. That was funny about your 'new' bike because the odometer went back to 'zero.' Bicycle is also any excellent way to travel; you get to see more detail and meet more people, but motorcycle is best if you only have so much time. Congratulations on having a 'spirit of adventure', and keep the spirit.
@ancoloco7 жыл бұрын
Very nice touring video. I can't wait to film my touring adventures. What year built is your Africa Twin? Howmany km or miles did you already have before you're embarked on this tour? Did you have any technical difficulties turing your trip?
@BikeInAfrica7 жыл бұрын
My Africa Twin is from 1993, RD07. It has now about 220.000 km, and probably i will swap the engine with a newer one as it is already eating up some oil, but working great nonetheless. This was not my first adventure in Africa, neither the longest one. Actually the longest one is with my bicycle crossing from Cairo to Cape Town :) ( www.bikeinafrica.com ) . In this trip i didn`t had any problems with the motorcycle, but the Africa Twin has some weak spots : the voltage regulator, right bearings in the rear wheel and the benzin pump. I carry everytime spares for those ;)
@wiss19948 жыл бұрын
I'm planning to go on a road trip with my motorcycle but only through one country so since you already went what do you recommande which si safer and bas better roads morocco or mouritani or in their in other african country to recommande
@BikeInAfrica8 жыл бұрын
Morocco i belive is safer and it`s more oriented to tourists. On the other hand Mauritania gets far less tourists and it has a much lower population density. If you enjoy the sound of silence and also the wild nature, Mauritania is the way to go. If you like to see tourists atractions, go for Morocco. If you like both, go and see them both, they share a border and it`s not that far away ;)

Any AT 750 rider can help me out? Need more info on this bike. Are the parts still available should wear and tear occurs? What is the average and highest cruising speed on it? Thanks
@BikeInAfrica7 жыл бұрын
You can still find parts without much hussle for Africa Twin, but this motorcycle rarely breaks down. The only real problems are the voltage regulator, the fuel pump and the rear wheel bearing. You can cruise at 140 kmh at around 6500 rpm, maybe even faster.
@norhilmyfailippt16777 жыл бұрын
Marcu Bogdan thanks for the reply. I guess im not getting thing bike in the end. Reason because of the 5 speed. I think the new AT would be better for cruising as it is a 6 speed parallel twin.
