I actually recommend riding a long board before a skate board, I rode my friends long board a lot, and it reached me balance and feet placement, and pushing. Soon as you get a skate board, your already a few steps ahead, all you have to do is get comfortable with the diffrient types of turns, and the way the board moves differently

A million times better AND it's way more stable. Anything plastic skateboards these days, is just too sketchy. Hell, get a surf skate or a freeride downhill board. Those are atleast fun and something new to try.

I like old-school style skateboards(pre-popsicle decks) and small, medium size, long boards for city cruising and getting around town and full-blown long boards for cruising those long stretches that go for miles. The last great longboard cruise I had though was when me and my buddy cruise from Greektown to downtown Toronto I’ve taken my brand new pin tail to Toronto to skate it but sadly on the way home it got lost in transit so I bought a Peralta ripper as my new city cruiser and built a new longboard set up out of an old sector 9 deck and some spare trucks and wheels I had lying around

I went from skating to longboard bombing and found out penny nickels are a great in-between because you can bomb hills just as big as on a longboard but you can also do tricks and they're easier to carry around. Plus they NEVER deteriorate. I've had the same one for like eight years.
