Until watching a couple of these videos I didn't know that Chimpanzees are the smartest of all primates, I just learned that they're our closest living relatives with an average IQ of 20-25 which is the equivalent to a human toddler whose brain is still developing but unlike other primates, they actually have the capacity for thought. They are able to "think about thinking", scientifically referred to as metacognition. That's why his little examination actually feels thought-out and methodical as he moves from one check to the next. It's amazing, humanity has been searching for its brothers in space when we've had these guys here with us all along. lol

Just him using both fingers to open up her nostrils, the manual dexterity is super human like. People just don't realize we're one of the great apes, just like chimps and gorillas! I see all these horror stories about Chimpanzees attacking their owners and grow afraid of them but then I see this a gentle giant showing affection and being so wonderful and that's when I get confused with things however I guess It depends on how their raised. This one Is one of the good results I guess and makes me remember how much I wish to have the chance to bond with a chimp or monkey of some kind despite my growing fear of them from those crazy stories.

I’m not very knowledgeable about chimps or most animals in general, so forgive me if my question seems odd or smart-ass-ish. But how can she guarantee he won’t just harm her one day out of no where? Personally I’d be terrified just being close to one.
@ToyKingWonder
@ToyKingWonder 2 жыл бұрын
You are one of the few people that get it. You should be terrified. They are wild animals. Household pets have been domesticated for thousands of years. I hope I am wrong, but things will likely not end well for this person.
@thewolven6075
@thewolven6075 Жыл бұрын
@@ToyKingWonder You both are forgetting how Bow has been raised. He has language to explain things that may be bothering him and to communicate. I'm not saying he's not a wild animal, but he's what I'd call a very rare exception to his species. His capacity for an "unseen" violent outburst is very low. If a chimpanzee becomes violent, there's usually a reason for it. However, the species has shown a vicious streak in the wild and captivity, along with mob behavior. Bow is a very gentle creature and I doubt he falls into this.
@Heccct
@Heccct Жыл бұрын
All animals are unpredictable, even humans (We're actually way more insidious and unpredictable, lol). There's many factors that make it more or less likely that something would hurt you. It's just that most things we domesticated can't actually cause us significant, life-threatening harm very easily. A chimpanzee doesn't fall into that category. If they want to, they're definitely intelligent enough to mutilate you within seconds. At the end of the day, it may never happen, but there is also no guarantees that it won't. It's up to everyone to decide what risks they want to take. Personally, I couldn't ever 100% trust any living creature that isn't me.

What happened to Bow's mum? I saw on another video where you said he was Missouri Born and Bred… what happened to his mum that he would co e to be in your care? I can’t get over how gentle he is at his age! Friends of my mum had a female chimp that they has to surrender to the zoo when she was 9 or 10 years old… despite being raised and loved by humans, she just became so unruly and temperamental… once she had a baby of her own, she calmed down again and would even bring her baby to her foster parents to see it when they would go up to the zoo to visit her… it amazes me that you have been able to keep Bow for 18 years now? @@ZippedUpKitz Bow’s biological mother is alive and well. Nothing happened to her. She continued to live with her extended family. As happens with many adoptions, both the biological and the adoptive mothers are good people, and things are arranged with the best interests of the child in mind. Nothing bad has to happen to one mother for the other mother to be able to give a child a home.

@@AyaKatz oh I’m not saying anything bad happened… please do not mistake my curiosity as being accusatory… I was just curious as to why baby Bow wasn’t with his biological mum :) My mum's friend had a little female chimp, Manda, and she came from a primate research facility… but it had been closed down due to inhumane treatment of the primates… she was the sweetest little thing and I absolutely adored her. I was just a kid at the time, 14 years old, but loved playing with her! I was very said for her foster parents when they had to surrender her… they still see her though… I think your boy Bow is an amazing chimp… he was obviously raised with unconditional love and respect!!!!

@@real2124 Nick, male chimps (and sometimes the "alpha" females even) frequently put on a "threat display", where they "pant-hoot", and then engage in some sort of strength demonstration, like dragging large fallen trees, kicking trees, slapping the ground, kicking cages...you get the idea. Anyhow, this behavior is shortened to "displaying" by primatologist and so forth. Good question!
