Truly an awesome cavern system, they say it runs all the way back north continuing beneath the Ohio River and into Indiana's fabulous wet caves, and they are beautiful at times, with some odd spectacles along with many of the classic formations, and huge chambers! I actually have not been to those caves since I was a kid; there is Marengo, and Squire Boone, and another I cannot remember.... plus add on the newer American Caverns, or something to that effect. This cave was said to have been a death trap for ice age mammals.... apparently, there is quite a drop off and many preserved remains were recovered. This cave has ziplines! Sorry, I live in Indiana and I am kinda proud of our caves.... all of them are just north and due west of Louisville. Cheers!

All I kept thinking about was 'How the hell did they get the ladders in there?'
@henryquenin65803 жыл бұрын
That looks like a very complex cave, a maze. If that was your first time in, I don't know how you kept from getting very confused. The most complex cave I ever was in was Lilburn Cave in California back in the early 1980s, which has been mapped at 22 miles long and more than 500 feet deep, a three-dimensional maze, too. Fortunately I went in with someone who knew the cave very well or I would have gotten hopelessly lost. By the way, I love your your vids.
@michaeloppenheimer25823 жыл бұрын
Well happy exploring, take care and maybe you should show us some of the other areas of Mammoth cave that are more accessible, like some of the areas where there are regular tours, encouraging financial support of the caves so that more the cave is opened up for tours and exploration !!

I took a tour through part of Mammoth Cave at Bowling Green, Kentucky. They had 4 or 5 tours and only 1 was worth seeing. The rest were just a boring hole in the ground. I really liked Onondaga Cave and Meramac Caverns in Missouri. In Tom Sawyer, Injun Joe followed Tom and Becky into Onondaga Cave. And Meramac Caverns was Jesse James's hideout. Both were nice caves.

What's caving like in your region, access-wise? Are some of them closed off with a locked steel door, like in this video? If so, how does one get access to them, through the land owner or through the local/regional caving association? And is it common for caves to be closed off, or does that only happen rarely?
