I heard about this watch few months ago and I fell in love with it. Because of the accuracy and the features like smart crown which lets you set the hours and minutes independently. Then I started to look at some entry level Grand Seiko's with 9f movement and I thought this will be the better option with its 50 year life expectancy, overall better fit and finish etc. But, and it's a really big but, 9f movements are not capable of setting the hour and minute independently. Also, the GS is supposed to have this mechanism to reduce the backlash and the mechanism to always hit the markers. And I watched I think most of the available videos about these quartz GS' watches and what I see is that the date is not changing at midnight as it should. The seconds hand have some backlash when watched at slow motion and also it is not hitting the markers 100% correctly which is guaranteed by Grand Seiko. And also the seconds hand have this dual step instead of a single tick. And all that combined just does not scream GS quality which they promised. Having all that in mind, I think that Citizen being cheaper with their Chronomaster line and feature richer movements and also this Longines VHP which also has rich history in accurate quartz movements is just a better option for a everyday watch. Grand Seiko is probably better made watch overall but it comes at much higher price. Thank you for the video because this Longines I hope is going to be my next watch. And I have to say (having also an automatic watch), I am conscious quartz lover for their practicality and that they represent what watches were invented for.

9FXX are getting a bit old now. The new GMT versions have adjustable hour hand, but it's definitely silly that they don't have adjustable hour hand on the standard 3 handers. All the accuracy goes out the window if you travel with the watch and have to readjust the time.
@markn35864 жыл бұрын
One plus is battery changes. The battery driven 9f and I believe the Chronomaster need to be sent to Japan for a battery change. The VHP can be changed at your local dealer as long as you don't let it go completely dead. If it goes completely dead, the perpetual calendar needs to be reset at the factory.

I've heard it's not great to take a shower with pretty much any watch. The problem (as it was explained to me) is humidity in the air _can_ make it into the watch. It's water resistant not air resistant, and when there's a pressure difference between the air inside & outside the watch, air _does_ move in & out of the case (again, so I was told). Based on this, swimming is quite a bit safer than a hot shower, just because of the reduced air pressure delta both during and after swimming. Part of my reason for mentioning this here is to see if anyone has an opinion about it, but it sounded credible to me. I believe there's a simple test for moisture in the case where you heat up the case, then apply cold to the crystal and see if there's condensation inside.

I have it, bought it in Poland on discount in some e-store for, wait for it, 3500 PLN which corresponds to roughly 875 USD. Fortunately for me, since it was the last in stock in this shop so it get discounted. It's even better than on video, the quality is really high, setting the watch when the hands are moving like in fast-forward is mesmerizing. I have Bulova Precisionist as well and this Longines is much better overall (of course the price is 3x higher, but still). I think it's one of the best value for money on the market right now.

With the V.H.P. being readily available for $1,000.00 in the GMT version and the Citizen 0100 selling for $7,400.00 and not available for purchase, the Longines makes better sense with similar accuracy, but better availability at a far better price, with Longines being 1/7 the cost of the Citizen. I'll simply buy the Longines.

I love mechanical watches ( I even prefer hand wind over auto), but I really do enjoy the fantastic accuracy of my Bulova Lunar Pilot Chronograph with it's 262 Khz Precisionist quartz movement. Especially considering I paid $330 for it.

The ETA motor made esclusively for this model of Longines runs at 400 Khz and is thermocompensated, thus its higher accurancy than the Bulovas.

Nice Adam! Interesting watch that is not getting any attention. Do you think you would like this watch more if it had 20 atm and a screw crown. Something you can wear anywhere, even to the beach on vacation etc. Make it more sporty with a rubber strap option. I don't know why more brands don't go the Rolex route and make their watches more waterproof.

Interesting. Wasn't aware of these HAQ models. Is there a term for, like, just not-crappy quartz? I prefer mechanicals, but am also perfectly ok with decent quartz pieces, that is, the second hand doesn't wobble, they line up with the indices, and it's not too loud.This watch certainly looks like it has good alignment, and I assume if a company's gonna make an HAQ watch, they would, but that's not a given, is it? I still don't get why they don't just make more sweeping quartz movements. Even Bulova doesn't seem to care to market their sweeping movements much.
@8AP16 жыл бұрын
Sweeping movements will use more battery. ISA make a sweeping hand movement (4 beats per second). ISA 9500-1010

Just found this video. I'm very glad I did. I have thought that i might like a luxury quartz piece, but afraid I might have a hard time bonding like you did after I pull the trigger. I have a couple of beater quartz pieces, like a solar GShock and a Casio Protrek but think it might be cool to have a really nice quartz piece. What are your thoughts on a Grand Seiko Limited GMT? Great video by the way.

thanks man, i have some old footage of the bumblebee new quartz gmt from GS that i just haven't gotten around to editing. To be completely honest, it doesn't really do it for me. Id rather save the cash and get the Longines if I had to pick

@@tententock Thanks Adam, I really appreciate the guidance. Also I'm not really sure I would be cool with the design of the GS that remind me of an Explorer II. It might get to be a bit irritating. It might be worth a drive to the AD to see a Longines.

From what I have seen, the VHP has a much better finish, and more attractive dial. A thing that really bothered me with the Certina Precidrive watches I've seen, is that the second hand misses many of the markers. That would really drive me crazy in the end.

DharmaMonkey, so you avoid all water possible? When you have kids running around and a dress watch on, sooner or later you'll get water tipped on it, or have to submerse your hand. The could've easily bumped it up to 100m (albeit at a slightly higher price).
