Love quartz! Makes so much more sense to have quartz in this price range than paying 500 euro to service an automatic 1000 euro watch. Wish more brands would develop in quartz

A very good revue, Bruce. I am seriously interested in horology. I own both mechanical and quartz watches. I have owned Rolex and Omega (sold them). I have four Grand Seiko mechanicals and two 9F quartz models. I also own mechanical and quartz Bulovas. I also own the white dial 41mm Longines Conquest VHP 3 hand version. The thing I like about the VHP is its phenomenal time keeping ability. It’s time keeping ability is completely inherent. It does not rely on a GPS signal or a signal from an atomic clock. Whether someone likes or dislikes a watch is purely subjective. People that criticize other people for their likes or dislikes of certain watches are idiots. I respect other people’s opinions, whether I agree with them or not. I don’t respect unwarranted attacks on other people’s likes and dislikes.

As much as I love automatics, I can't do it anymore. Everyone pretty much has precise time now due to having cell phones that sync over the network. Showing up for meetings 3-4 minutes late is no longer an option. I actually DO want to use my watch for precise time and rely on it throughout the day. Seeing how the Swiss are focusing more on advance quartz watches now, the writing is on the wall.
@jacc888885 жыл бұрын
The Truth Not necessarily true about always being on time. A channel reviewed a $3,000 Oris that was +11s a day. That was well within the accuracy parameters which could have been worse at +20s but it was still acceptable on paper. You’ll be out by a minute within a few days at that rate. Not enough mechanicals are regulated well enough imo especially when you’re paying a premium.
@gregmedbourn53474 жыл бұрын
I totally agree.... I got to the point I dreaded to set my mechanical watch... I only would wear it a few days a week (since I have others to wear ) I hated to get my iPhone out to look at my atomic clock and set that thing... Week after week... Months after months... I absolutely love my quality quartz watches ... Just grab and go .... And I do love all the history and seeing all the quality mechanical watches but in honesty for me most of the sub $500 dollar movements are the same ETA movements... And you do have to service those once in a while and you need to add that to your overall cost of ownership... I love this watch for the price you can get it for .... As of this writing it’s somewhere around $675 I’m a older man and for me it’s just a nice feeling of putting on a fabulous quality piece that always works perfectly and to get a better quartz quality watch would be getting the Grand Seiko quartz costing over $2,000 dollars... Longines is a top quality company with over 125 years of great workmanship in the industry.. For around $675 I fell like I’m wearing a $1,500 dollar great looking watch

Cool watch. My questions are: 1. Does changing the battery cost about the same as other quartz watches? 2. If the processor/quartz dies, how much would it cost to replace the quartz? The processor WILL eventually die. With a mechanical, it can be cleaned and parts replaced. With this, do you have to throw away the watch?

Hi,Nice review! I have the one with the white dial, and measuring the accuracy since I have it: so far it is doing 1.07 spy. Very impressive indeed. The other advantage is that there is local Longines Service Center. The Grand Seiko and Citizen (the one I prefer because of the perpetual calendar) are Japanese only market, so if you need to service them, you have to send them back to Japan. Also, The price of the VHP is a fraction of those, but the deal breaker, at least for me, it is just the fact that they cannot be serviced in NA.

In these years Longines is going places. The new Hydroconquest with the L888 movement is a marvel. With 65 hrs powerreserve, impeccable finish and an accuracy of plus two seconds a day (unregulated) they are almost getting en par with Rolex. Hell, it's even superior to my Omega Planet Ocean which has a shitty bracelet.

With the crown pulled out and turned slowly you can move the minute hand. Give it a quick turn and the hands advance or go back one hour depending upon the rotation obviously. I'm not aware of this feature on any another watch and could be useful for those travelling abroad or live with daylight saving? I examined one in a Nottingham AD while on lunch the other day and think this is a pretty cool feature. This could be a future purchase? It was an observation, not a criticism keep up the good work.

I guess this was bound to come at some point. A watch that you can't set. Oh, you can set the minutes and hours, like when you're changing time zones. But you can't set the date. At all, because the watch is never supposed to be allowed to stray from the correct time so much that it would be required. And don't think you can trick it by running the hands forward while setting the time. You can't run them forward or backward more than 24 hours. And why? So they can have a perpetual calendar without showing you the month and year. And what if you find out that your watch is showing the wrong month like it's January 31st but the watch has jumped to "1"? Well, you'll have to send it to an authorized Longines lab where they can hook it up to the computer and set the time properly. Yep, you have to send it in to be set.
@WatchGeek7 жыл бұрын
Yoav Nir oh wow that sucks if it's true. Why didn't they use the same system as Citizen watches where when you are in date setting mode, the seconds hand indicates both the month and year. Each hour marker is one month of the year: 1-January, 2-February... while the minute markers after a full hour marker are years after a leap year. So if you had March of leap year you would move the seconds hand to the 3 o'clock marker. If you had a March of a year that's 2 years after leap year you would put the seconds hand 2 minute markers after 3 o clock and so on... a petty genius way of setting a perpetual calendar by using only regular hands.
@synp9ynir7 жыл бұрын
Watch Geek Yes. I went to their website and downloaded the user manual. The battery is supposed to last 4 years. Before it dies, it does the skip-5-seconds thing for a while, and after that, the hands go to twelve o'clock but the watch is still keeping time. It can last in this state for 6 months. If you take out the battery and put in a new one within 24 hours, you'll just have to set the time, as it will remember the date. If more than 24 hours have passed, you'll need to send it to an authorized lab to be "reprogrammed". You're not likely to ever need to be in that situation, but I don't like it just the same.
@KurzawaJakub7 жыл бұрын
You're are worried in advance, buddy. Remember there is warranty. :)
@synp9ynir7 жыл бұрын
A warranty is about not having to pay for it. You still have to send it in for a while.
@jannilsson58726 жыл бұрын
Wow, you want to set the wrong date? If you change the battery before the watch completly dies you don´t need to send it anywear. It clearly states that when the seconds stop at 12 when battery is drained, you got 6 months to change the battery. That´s a long time to NOT change the battery.
