I recently sent my Longines into the HQ for a free estimate. I bought my watch 30+ years ago when I worked at a jewelry store. I wore it every day for 10 years and never had a single issue with the watch. Then I left that job and put the watch away in the safe. It sat there until the spring of 2022 when I wanted to wear it to a wedding. I had the battery replaced at a reputable jeweler her in town. The watch worked fine until I got to the wedding and noticed that it wasn't working. Long story short, I sent it to Longines and they told me that it had to be sent to Switzerland because it was "vintage" and that the minimum estimate would be $430. That watch needed and overhaul. It needed to be cleaned as the oils in the movement dried up. No way I was going to pay that. They probably would have just cleaned it there and set it aside for a month or two. Too bad for Longines too. I was in between buying a new HydroConquest or a Tag Heuer Aqua Racer. Looks like I'm investing twice the money for the Tag.

In the 'seventies, my parents bought me a Longines 5-Star Admiral watch for graduation. It ran well for years then started stopping intermittently. I put it away and lost track of it. In 2019 I found it and decided to get it restored based on some restoration videos Longines posted on KZbin. I sent it to Longines. They charged me $65 To examine it. They said they could restore it but it'd cost around $750. Since the watch held sentimental value I sent it in with payment. A couple months later I received a package containing one of their least expensive mechanical watches. I contacted Longines and they told me my watch had been "destroyed'. No further explanation was offered. Given that the watch still worked, if imperfectly, I can only guess Longines kept the movement for parts. I wasn't given a choice of replacement watch, or given the choice of getting my money back. When I raised these issues the customer service representative on the phone yelled at me for not reading the fine print in the restoration agreement.

@@longineswatches Day late and $750 dollars short. Did this this a couple years ago and nothing changed. My original watch is gone for good. Amazes me to this day. What did "destroyed" mean? Did it suddenly melt down to nothing, leaving not even the strap?

What what did they send you ??? I was thinking of sending them an old watch but this was in the back of my mind as a similar thing happened when I sent apple a gen 1 iPod
