I own Rolex, Omega, Raymond Weil & Glycine watches but when I saw the Tissot Seastar 1000 with the Powermatic 80 movement, I was really impressed and fell in love with it. I hope I get one soon. Tissot has really done a great job in modifying a normal rigid movement into a great movement worthy of appreciation and admiration. In addition to the amazing movement, the Seamaster 1000 has a ceramic bezel and a gorgeous rubber band. I think Tissot are back on the road to greatness once again. Best wishes 👍.

Thank you very much for the video that shows how does mechanical clocks and watches work. In quartz clocks and watches first wheel of the gear train is regulated by peizo electric motor (lavet stepping motor or smooth sweeping motor) that is powered by tuning fork shaped quartz crystal resonator that receives power from 1.5 V battery and vibrates at the frequency of 32,768 Hz and regulates the series of gears that drives the motion work to drive the hands that points seconds, minutes and hours. In mechanical clocks the spring barrel or weight pulley (cable barrel) drives the first wheel of the going train to activate the escapement the pushes the balance wheel or pendulum forward every time it returns backwards and drives the motion work of the clock to make the hands of the clock to point the hours minutes and seconds. This is the main difference between quartz clocks and mechanical clocks. Motion work is direct of the going train in some clocks and motion work is not direct part but connected to going train in some clocks in case of mechanical clocks. In quartz clocks the motion work is almost always direct part of the going train and either the mainspring barrel or weight pulley is not necessary because there is no spring driven oscillator (pendulum nor balance wheel) to drive the gear train. Thus the spring driven oscillator and escapement are replaced by quartz crystal powered peizo electric motor to drive the gear train in quartz clock.

The caliber "Powermatic 80" used by Tissot is an upgrade of ETA 2824. The first Powermatic had 23 jewels due to using fork and escape wheel made of composite or "plastic". After that, Tissot went back to 25 jewels using metal fork and escape wheel. Also Hamilton use same 25 jewels caliber. Both calibers have free balance spring, regulated by laser. There isn't anymore the manual regulator.

@destryo3287
@destryo3287 2 жыл бұрын
@@HelderAC The Powermatic 80 is just a name for the modified ETA movement which is inside. There are different serial numbers for this movement which indicate slight differences (if any). If they are the "same", then the COSC certified has been tested to a degree which is compliant with the COSC certification. Thus it guarantees the movements to be exact to the COSC specifications. I think Tissot gives a longer warranty to their COSC watches but I am not sure.
@HelderAC
@HelderAC 2 жыл бұрын
@@destryo3287 Thanks for your answer. So if I understand correctly, being that the movements in both watches should practically be the same this would mean that even if the gentleman is not COSC certified but the balade is, they should be pretty close from an accuracy point of view, which is what ultimately matters. Correct?

I asked myself the same thing... I could imagine (1.) that there is a mechanism preventing the rotor from turning in the wrong direction, releasing tension of the mainspring or (2.) a mechanism which allows the rotor to turn in the wrong direction but without influencing the mainspring (i.e. a gearwheel with skewed teeth)

Does anybody know if the first powermatic 80 movement from 6 years ago has the silicon balance spring? I have that movement and the inscription on the back says high tech escapement instead of silicon balance spring like this one. When I bought it Tissot didn’t reveal details about the movement but watch sites and reviewers always thought it had the silicon balance wheel and therefore resistant to magnetism. Just curious, my watch is still working perfectly after 6 years and no service yet.

I don't believe it does. No worries, when the time comes for service Swatch Service Center will most likely upgrade the part.

@@michaelriera6277 They wont! All silicon balance version models indicate on the dial and come at a price premium. They will not upgrade during service!

I am thinking of getting the Ballade black dial for an everyday casual/semi-sporty watch. Would you recommend it and what do you like about it?

@jamespourtoy 4 жыл бұрын
@@robdavis1248 definitively yes, it is a absolute must have in reality, wath ever the strap ( full steel seems to be more durable question of strap) but the Mouvement of the powermatic 80 cosc silicon is so accurate in long term that you gonne be amazed for real 😉 don't forget that the other brands with the same specs are much more expensive also.. Question of brand.. Go fit it! 👍

I have a Tissot Luxury Chronometer. Are all of the silicium movements COSC certified? Or only the ones that state "chronometer" on the dial? I think I'm getting a Tissot Gentleman in blue as a daily wear. I just need to go somewhere to see it in person.

Hello Matthew, not all our watches are COSC certified. It is always specified when it is the case. Best, Sarah

@@TISSOT I went to an AD and had them order the blue Gentleman. I love it. I think it is so well made and the best value and quality for its price point.

I wish I could switch movement in my Breitling Avenger II GMT and Glycine Airman for something like this with 80h power reserve. 42h kinda sucks.
