Thank you very much for the video that shows how does mechanical clocks and watches work. In quartz clocks and watches first wheel of the gear train is regulated by peizo electric motor (lavet stepping motor or smooth sweeping motor) that is powered by tuning fork shaped quartz crystal resonator that receives power from 1.5 V battery and vibrates at the frequency of 32,768 Hz and regulates the series of gears that drives the motion work to drive the hands that points seconds, minutes and hours. In mechanical clocks the spring barrel or weight pulley (cable barrel) drives the first wheel of the going train to activate the escapement the pushes the balance wheel or pendulum forward every time it returns backwards and drives the motion work of the clock to make the hands of the clock to point the hours minutes and seconds. This is the main difference between quartz clocks and mechanical clocks. Motion work is direct of the going train in some clocks and motion work is not direct part but connected to going train in some clocks in case of mechanical clocks. In quartz clocks the motion work is almost always direct part of the going train and either the mainspring barrel or weight pulley is not necessary because there is no spring driven oscillator (pendulum nor balance wheel) to drive the gear train. Thus the spring driven oscillator and escapement are replaced by quartz crystal powered peizo electric motor to drive the gear train in quartz clock.

Dear Kevin, you have indeed a beautiful watch with the MOUVEMENT POWERMATIC 80.651 H2/6H (NIVACHRON), but this movement is not COSC certified. Thanks, Tissot team.
@gearbox37734 жыл бұрын
The caliber "Powermatic 80" used by Tissot is an upgrade of ETA 2824. The first Powermatic had 23 jewels due to using fork and escape wheel made of composite or "plastic". After that, Tissot went back to 25 jewels using metal fork and escape wheel. Also Hamilton use same 25 jewels caliber. Both calibers have free balance spring, regulated by laser. There isn't anymore the manual regulator.

@@destryo3287 Hi. What makes the ballade COSC that the Gentleman does not have as they seem to use the exact same movement? Thanks in advance.
@destryo32872 жыл бұрын
@@HelderAC The Powermatic 80 is just a name for the modified ETA movement which is inside. There are different serial numbers for this movement which indicate slight differences (if any). If they are the "same", then the COSC certified has been tested to a degree which is compliant with the COSC certification. Thus it guarantees the movements to be exact to the COSC specifications. I think Tissot gives a longer warranty to their COSC watches but I am not sure.
@HelderAC2 жыл бұрын
@@destryo3287 Thanks for your answer. So if I understand correctly, being that the movements in both watches should practically be the same this would mean that even if the gentleman is not COSC certified but the balade is, they should be pretty close from an accuracy point of view, which is what ultimately matters. 1:41 - does it matter which way the rotor turns or does it tighten the mainspring in either direction?
@larsmarz35845 жыл бұрын
I asked myself the same thing... I could imagine (1.) that there is a mechanism preventing the rotor from turning in the wrong direction, releasing tension of the mainspring or (2.) a mechanism which allows the rotor to turn in the wrong direction but without influencing the mainspring (i.e. a gearwheel with skewed teeth)
