Also the 5 minute basement scene in Zodiac is far more suspenseful and creepier than anything in Longlegs

Man, I wanted so much to really like this movie. The dread, the build-up, the atmosphere were all top-notch. I just expected some kind of Seven type reveal, but the ending just lost me.

Trust me, I felt the exact same way. I was really along for the ride with every twist and turn they threw at us with this murder mystery...And then that ending happen. Wish I enjoyed it as much as some others did. Thanks for checking out the review!

I just can’t believe that anyone actually found it scary, it just seems like they through a bunch of scary movie tropes in a hat and picked a bunch and then through in random bits of “scary” dialogue. There was really no big ending and I just felt bored the entire time

Great review. I agree on the vagueness of plot point when turning supernatural brought this down a peg but i still was super engaged from beginning to almost end.

Movie was so mid. No explanation of Longlegs whatsoever or how he came to be he’s just a weirdo in the occult because “Hail satan” and that’s about it. Finding out he was living in Harkers mom’s basement for the past 30 years and she was his delivery driver had me realize how shallow the plot really was. There’s a good story here but Perkins failed at putting it together.

While not the best serial killer film, I think The Strangler from 1964 is one of the best early examples of the genre. Victor Buono is chillingly creepy.

Great review Sully! I do agree, I had my issues with the third act and it left me with more questions than answers, but I still found enjoyment in all of it. Nick Cage is still my goat🤧

I enjoy a ton of serial killer movies, but my favorite would be Mr Brooks by a very wide margin. I think it's absolutely criminal that we never got sequels to it. It's one of my favorite movies of all time.

Seven is one of my favorite serial killer movie. Its so well done and the fact that we dont see any kills and I still hold it this high says alot about the performances and the sheer dread of the film. Til this day whats in the box haunts me.

Seven is without a doubt on the Mount Rushmore of thrillers. What's crazy is that Fincher has a few movies that could be up in that conversation, such an unbelievable director. Thanks for watching, T!

Silence of the Lambs, Se7en, Insomnia and The Bone Collector are my favorite in the to-catch-serial-killer genre. I would say Zodiac too but they never caught the guy. 🤷🏻

Hype will ruin anything though, it's not fair to the product. And the reviewers who exaggerate and sing nothing but praise to stay in a studios good grace or get their blurbs on a trailer are screwing the movies at the end of the day. It's not even a horror movie, its a psychological thriller at best, and I genuinely really liked it. Loved it even. I think it's getting a 4k and I'll absolutely be buying it. I share the sentiment a lot of you had about the end though, it kind of just felt flat like it was lacking a big punch.

You could not be more spot on about critics that exaggerate their early first impressions. Ever since I started making videos and paying much closer attention to movie reviewers, I learned to take 95% of those with a grain of salt outside of the critics I really trust. ‘Not fair to the product’ lmao as if NEON didn’t market this movie like the next biggest thing since color television. The audience doesn’t owe productions anything, and are entitled to react with their honest feelings, and you may not like it, but you don’t get to discredit that.

I like the ending. Now it going with more supernatural than I thought about a manhunt. It did get me disappointed. Wish it was more real and stuck to real gritty feeling. Still liked the ending but it for my weakest part of the movie. Glad to see you back with the new release review 👏🏻👏🏻

Agreed . I’m so sick of the festival overhype coming from critics just to get their quotes pulled for clout. This and Cuckoo were my most anticipated horror of the year and the supernatural, silly nature of this film was greatly disappointing. I’d give it a 6/10. Cage and his awful Makeup (the didn’t have the budget to pull that off I guess) were awful.

I wouldn't call it a boring movie as much as I would a frustrating one. I think if you enjoy these kinda of FBI and serial killer cat-and-mouse films, then there's something here for you to enjoy. But that ending got way too messy for my liking...Thanks for watching, dude!

You went into this with a whiffle ball bat when you should’ve brought aluminum. This contrived and meandering Frankenstein’s monster stitched together by pieces of better movies doesn’t deserve your respect and you shouldn’t have to tip toe around what you really want to say. And the reality/supernatural mix has been pulled off very successfully by many different movies that this one wishes so badly it was; Kill List, Empty Man, Hereditary, etc. Also I wouldn’t qualify Nick Cage yelling in an inconsistent squeaky voice with Mrs Doubtfire makeup on as either effective or frightening. I would however rate the Power Nap potency level of this movie a glimmering 5 stars.

I’m insanely late to the party, but i finally got around to seeing this like 40 minutes ago, and I personally loved it. Such an eerie, thought provoking experience, but i can totally see why a good chunk of people were disappointed by it, including you. at least everyone can agree Nick Cage is crazy good. I guess it was a good idea to wait until all the hype died down. Great Review!

Sully; 90+ percent of the time I agree with your reviews. I didn’t think “funnily” was a word but you were right, it is. But I think Oz Perkins hits it out of the park here, as does Nicolas Cage, saw it last night. Third Act did work for me. I don’t think they spent a dime on TV ads so can’t say they marketed incorrectly as the scariest horror movie ever made. Not sure where that is coming from but I agree with you there, it is not. 0:38 For me, was it engaging and entertaining and the answer is 100% yes. Should it be marketed as a film in the vein of Silence of the Lambs, yes!! Did we talk about it last night after seeing it and did I do internet research about it after seeing it, yes. Did we talk about it again today, yes. Should it be four stars or more, yes!! At least for me. Still luv ya.
