We were out at a full service campground in Moab last October. When we went exploring drove right by all of these BLM campgrounds along the river. That’s beautiful…I love the drone shots you get. I stayed in a very nice BLM campground just outside of Austin NV… simple, w/ nice clean bathroom, panoramic views, no one else around. It was wonderful.

The wife, kids and I did a trip to Moab in 2019 from our home near Seattle. It was the most amazing time! Moab and the surrounding areas are some of the most beautiful and inspiring places I have ever been. (It helps that my wife is a geologist!) We hope to get back down there in the near future!

That vault toilet looked really clean. We visited Moab and stayed in a hotel downtown - not expensive. Hiked Arches and drove through Indian Creek. Fantastic scenery. Worth several days to a week to explore.

We had a great time at Goose Island Campground. We even enjoyed the nightly light show on the canyon walls from the riverboat cruise since we were there in June the year we went. Such a cool place!

I did my last trip of the year to Moab. Stayed at Green River St. Pk. which I think is very nice. Then Dead Horse Point St. Pk. for the first time and it is really beautiful! Went down and got a fcfs at a BLM CG on the river past Goose Island. It was OK. One thing I realized is that due to the high canyon walls, you don't get much time for solar charging in October. FYI for visitors. Then beat it on home in an attempt to avoid the first snowstorm of the year. Glad I made it, because we had 50 mph winds and a foot of snow mid-October at my house! Good to see you back Sean and Christie!

We stayed at willow springs dispersed camping North of town for 5 days. For free. We loved it! Granted it's not for everyone. There are so many options in moab!! Yes!!! Pack it in pack it out!!!

Hi Roger, Willow Springs is no longer free. That area is State of Utah School Trust Lands and it was designated last year as the new "Utah Rapter State Park" The State has put a fee kiosk there, and at the Dalton Wells Road. It's $15.00 a night to stay there. In the next few years a campground & visitor center will be built.

Some BLM campgrounds and NPS campgrounds offer a discount for seniors who possess a senior National Park pass. The Superbowl campground on Route 211 outside of Monticello did the last time we were there so look on the signs.

This is Sean, (the camphost in the video). All of the BLM C.G.s in the Moab Area offer 1/2 off the Camping Fee for holders of a Senior National Parks Pass and/or the Access National Parks Pass. So the current nightly rate for those pass holders is $10.00.

If you are in peak or shoulder season Goose Island requires mostly luck to get a spot. We went in October and ended up all the way out in Big Onion Campground. It was terrific but another 20 minutes out.

@@LongLongHoneymoon GI was our first choice after a long drive from Seattle. and one by one we came up empty as we traveled up river. I think we arrived on a Monday or Tuesday. Nice thing about Big Onion(other than the name) is you are much further away from other campers. It is really quiet out there. Thx for your content. I really enjoy your stories and tips.

Hey, Sean & Kristy, beginning to think out a plan to Moab, possibly Goose Island, after this recommendation. How is the trip from AL/FL? Any areas we should do a bit more research on or avoid before towing our Airstream via the route? Any mountains, bridges, etc that are of concern? Nice of you to include the hosts. Those folks have hearts of gold. Also curious, does the state, county or someone else contract to empty dumpsters, pit toilets and how do they get water and cleaning supplies to maintain those pristine amenities?

Hi, this is Sean (the camphost in the video) thanks for the kind comment. Because the BLM has 27 C.G.s in the area they employ a maintenance crew to maintain the campgrounds. Maintenance comes thru the CG and power washes the pit toilets twice a week, and will come as requested by the host if there is an issue. The BLM contracts with a garbage collection agency to empty the dumpsters as needed. They also contract with a septic company who routinely pumps out the pit toilets and hauls that human waste to Price, UT where it's processed.

Looks like terrific campsites at a terrific price and if I saw the sign correctly, it appears if you have a National Park Pass you can stay for just $10 per day. Hard to beat that price in such a terrific place!

Thanks Sean for the blurb on trash. It's one of the camping worlds most serious topics. It's probably a good thing I'm not King, because the penalty for littering would be pretty serious. A couple of other notes about Goose Island. You do have cell phone service there, but you won't have it with most of the other sites to the East. Also, there is a natural spring with water coming right out of a pipe in the vertical rock wall on the south side of the road just 1/4 mile away. People fill their water jugs there for free. If it is so competitive for spots they are almost all gone by 10 am then it seems you should find your spot, park in order that nobody else can claim it and then go pay for your fee at the envelope station. I assume you are allowed to do it in that order, park first, then pay, then go back (walk) and straighten and level up the trailer/RV last. Otherwise if you find a spot, circle back to the envelopes, pay, go (drive) back to the spot, it might have someone else sitting there instead and it creates an issue.

Yeah I think what has changed is harder to identify. We live in strange times, when In California for example theft of less than $1000 is not punished and therefore tacitly encouraged (we’ve all seen the videos of stores being looted). Was that the case 50 years ago? Admittedly I was a kid but I don’t remember those sort of behaviors happening, much less being sanctioned by our government.

Hi Les, this is Sean (the camphost in the video) the south Maverick in Moab has a free dump station and free water. There is a store in town called "Farm City" that fills propane, Farm City also has a dump station and water, but they charge to dump & fill. I believe they charge 5 bucks. 👍

I love your video's. At my age (68) I worry about trying to hook up a trailer. I would have to have everything powered. I am on oxygen (thanks to Covid), but I am mobile it may take me longer to do things. I we were thinking of a Class C, but then you need to tow a car. What do you think would be easier to handle?
