On our first trip this year we blew the transmission in our toad less than 2 miles from home (yeah I forgot to shift to neutral). Got it towed in, and went on our trip. On the way home, the motorhome check engine light came on and we went into limp mode. Took 23 hours for roadside assistance to find us a tow truck in desolate west Texas. It turned out to be a code malfunction but took us an extra day and the cost of a hotel room before we got to head on home. I hope that is our worst “oh crap” moment ever.

Good to know I wasn't the only one that experienced a unpleasant vibe at that Malibu rv beach spot. It seemed they didn't want to let me and my wife stay there. Didn't want to pull the race card though. Still want to experience tgat place. What can I expect when I actually get a chance to stay there?

We use a spread sheet to plan our trips with the following columns: Day, Date, Place, Distance, Travel Time @ 60 mph, Fuel consumption, Fuel cost, Route, Campsite, Address, Rate, Phone #, Remarks. It works wonders!

I love finding those little hometown diners that I can try BREAKFAST! My favorite meal! However cooking your own meals can be very satisfying. This last year my son convinced me to try Instapot which works out rather nicely. Yes, the microwave is easy and used more frequently than not.

I have had my pass for almost 4 years. I paid $20.00, I turned 62 just before the change of cost to the $80.00. It is so nice to be able to go places and stay for half price it is worth the cost. I have got my dollars back long time ago. Probably the first year. We got new tires for our baby. After that freeze in early February I checked all the tires and found one that was rounded in an odd way, the tire guys called it cupped? We had them all changed they were 2014s. Excited to ride down the road with good tires. We are heading to our favorite park soon. Enjoy your travels. Y'all be safe.

We are heading out from Texas in May, to see friends and family in Alabama, Kentucky, Maryland, New Hampshire, Ohio, Illinois, and Arkansas. Many stops planned along the way we should be back in Texas by the end of July in time to meet a new grandbaby. Hopefully, the gas prices won't break the bank lol. On your way thru Kentucky their is the Bourbon Trail. Having been to many, some would be difficult to park, so call in advance, such as Woodward Reserve. Our state parks are usually great.

A wise man said, "Time is the ultimate luxury." Oh, that was you. So true. Most people can't spend a month or two exploring a place, but it's the best way. (although the ultimate luxury might be an ice maker!) My local grocery, Publix, occasionally has a deal where you pay $40 for a $50 Shell gift card. That's when I stock up! One year I had 20 cards, $1000 worth of gas prepaid. And you're not putting your bank card in a strange machine. I also use the Shell rewards card for $0.05/gal all the time. Being cheap, er, frugal I make a meatloaf the day before I leave. Then when I'm tired and don't feel like cooking, throw a slice on the Blackstone!

Gas Buddy has saved me a lot over the years. It saved me $1 a gal in Calif. by just going down the road another 10 miles. usually 10-20 cents if I use the app and stay away from the ones right off the exits. My experiences have been just the opposite with propane at distributors. Locally & 2x on trips they're about 40-50 cents a gal more. Surprisingly in small town gas stations have been my best experiences. Last year in Cottonwood AZ at an RV dealer it was 99 cents a gal. My lifetime Pass has paid for itself many times over.

When you need propane, check to see if there is a Tractor Supply store nearby. They usually have the best price in our area. I do try to avoid toll roads when towing. I hate paying more than double the car rate to tow my travel trailer on their roads. And you don't get any break on the fuel taxes when paying tolls, either.

TC is the best deal around here too. I'm lucky to have a TC I can stop at on my way to the highway, and a Cabela's with a dump station on my way back. Trips start with full propane and end with empty gray and black tanks, and I don't have to go out of my way at all.

If you have a schedule to keep with reservations the Oh Crap! category hits you with unexpected expenses and loss of time scheduled for a location. This fall I woke up in Savannah with a tooth ache. Stayed a week with an long time friend of my daughters in Montgomery waiting to get a root canal and then the recovery time. Missed all my time planned for Huntsville. Will try another time.

You two truly are the RV voice of experience! One thing we consider when choosing an RV park is how much of the day will we actually be spending at the park. If we are planning on being out and about till dinner time we may choose not to book a premium spot with a view. We have also found Uhaul dealers have inexpensive propane and charge by the gallon/pound and not the tank.

We've found the big companies to be more expensive than other places, except for a couple places in Columbia Falls, MT! The best prices are at local yocal hardware stores, even Tractor Supply has been pretty good.

Sean and Christy, we are on the road for three months. Left snowy Crested Butte CO (home) and currently in Pensacola and heading to Vero Beach FL (where we lived for 30+ years). Then traveling up the Appalachian mountains to Virginia and then home through Kentucky down the Natchez Trace and back through Texas and New Mexico seeing friends before getting back to Colorado in late May.

We chose a different overnight on a usual trip from Henderson Nevada to Ft. Lupton, Colorado and stayed at a harvest host BUZZARDS Belly General Store. It is a fun quiet, friendly, interesting ghost town and beautiful stay. It is also near Moab. Jeans, the owner, is gracious and fun. Antiques too.

I imagine the artists decorating the outside with corn kernels every year would disagree. :) If I remember correctly, it's a gymnasium inside that hosts events so not much to see there, but it's just a quick jaunt off I-90 (a few blocks) to see the outside. Those tourist traps draw people in to use their gas stations and restaurants and help save those little towns. One of my friends who lives in Mitchell calls it the armpit of the state, but it's home! lol

We live in Sarasota FL. We are talking about going down to Key West in the next couple of weeks. As a sub note I would also recommend mentioning about both people being able to drive and operate the RV. When you had those broken bones were you still driving the truck? One time we were heading to Georgia for a funeral. Fortunately we left early. On a fuel stop I noticed a problem with the front driver's tire. We had to stay the night and have a new set of tires put on the following day along with a frontend alignment. Blowing a front tire on a 43' diesel pusher towing a car is definitly not something anyone ever wants to experience.

A good Mexican restaurant is Juan Pablo's in Sulphur Springs, TX. Take exit 124 on I-30. Large rigs can park in the empty lot next door or across the street.

Hey if you are going through southwest VA at exit 105 before 2 pm except on Mondays we are open until 8:30 pm stop in and get our fresh roasted coffees, fresh baked pastries and paninis. On Monday evenings we have Texas style BBQ. Let us know when you are coming, I have a spot you can overnight if you want. No change. We are closed on Sunday.

So true on every point, fun seeing some places in your video we were just at. Yes Malibu campground is amazing and I think every local to California should go for once but to pricey for more than once. When we traveled across the country this last summer we used AllStays app for finding campgrounds (wife wants hookups) and we found something every night. We averaged about $40 per night, some nice places and some well let me say not so nice but a good nights sleep. As always love your videos, keep them coming.

Last year, we borrowed a neighbor’s camper. After replacing the lift system(HiLo) , the water heater and associated water lines, we took a 1600 mile trip over the Rockies to Washington state to see our grandkids. We had a problem free trip on the way West because we only travel about 300 miles a day(5 days total). But on our return trip, I needed to get home quick (our house sitter, pool girl, lawn mower quit), so I drove approximately 550 miles a day, 80 miles an hour. That was hard on us and the travel trailer. We have decided a travel trailer is not for us!

as a truck driver. yes do not do the push driving. stop rest, see any sight. one day i was trying to get some place, road work brought traffic to a stop. i remember pulling my brake valves. next thing i knew was the chp shouting at me to get my truck moving. there was nobody in front of me, for the mile of stopped traffic had moved on. and i am used to this life (have been for 40 years). at 63 i want out.

Another great video! We have several trips planned this year including a trip to The Grand Canyon in mid September. We have reserved a bucket list item of Donna's, riding a mule into the Grand Canyon. Bonus Tip, the Senior National Park pass also gives 1/2 priced campsites at COE campgrounds! We stayed at one close to you in February, Gunter Hill near Montgomery Alabama. Beautiful campground and it only cost us $15 a night!

GetUpside app will give a rebate back for gas and discount for things you buy in the gas stations. The gas stations that they require you to use are BP, Circle K, Phillips 66, and Love. I've used it, and it's worth it. I hope this helps. Stay safe.

Superb video as always, and there is a lot of good information regarding budgeting for an RV trip. I especially like the New Orleans reference to good eating and the video footage of Bananas Foster being created tableside. The reference to the National WW II museum was good, as this should be a must see to anyone visiting New Orleans. We are planning a quick 4-day trip over our son's Easter break, but our destination is unknown at this time. Lastly, I would like to propose that Loloho do a video on the cost of outfitting your RV or travel trailer once you buy it. The initial cost for our WD sway control hitch (Andersen), backup camera (Furrion), GPS (coming soon), coupler lock (Proven Industries), pots & pans, Viair air compressor, bedding and everything else added up VERY QUICKLY. Perhaps a list of what is absolutely needed as compared to some things that would just make RV travel a lot easier. Lastly, of course we ordered everything we could from the Loloho Amazon page because y'all rock!

Our UHaul sells propane by the gallon. If you trade in an empty tank at places like Lowe’s for Blue Rhino it’s my understanding the tanks may not be full and may be outdated.

Allow me to add that the mule rides at Grand Canyon National Park are booked well in advance ( I heard two years ). When I first saw that traffic back-up at 21:35 I thought it was a Covid-19 testing line - then I saw the truck crane.

Probably is a very long wait, but, I can personally tell you that the ride down and back to the Phantom Ranch and staying overnight was one of our most memorable vacations ever... In fact, I would definitely place this in the top 5... If you do it you'll never forget it... Oh, one last thing... don't wait too long if you want to do it... it's not for someone over 70.

Gas buddy is huge, even in hometown Louisville. Harvest host would have saved us several nights rent, except COVID shut most down. We save gas money all year long using our Kroger card. They are linked to many varied food chains. Hardest part with some gas stations they are hard to use pulling a trailer. Thanks happy camping!

As always great information and suggestions. Love listening to you guys. We are trying our first long long trip this year, year 3 to camping and this year with a FW. Leaving upstate NY diagonally across the country to OK, NM, AZ, NV, up 15 to Montana and back across via Mt Rushmore. Mixed up camping plans between state parks and regular campgrounds, bringing the generator for some of the stays. Lots of side trips from base camp when possible. Not spending as much time as we should but we still have a home and yard to take care of this year, so about 45 days. You get this way you'd love the Finger Lakes area. We have a pretty good driving plan with getting enough rest. Our key places to stop are MO. Sean and Christy, Andales food looked really good. We want to try it some day! We live about 3 1/2 hours away. Next time you're in Las Cruces, New Mexico, stop by La Posta De Mesilla to eat. We went there a few years ago and their food is phenomenal! And the atmosphere was incredible. Check it out on the internet. The little video doesn't come close to conveying the atmosphere. There's really not an area for outdoor dining, so they are probably only doing take out at this time. Safe travels!

Definitely avoid tolls going south on I95 in MD. Going North, take the hit and ay the Tidings Bridge toll, but you can avoid the Delaware Toll and only add a bit of time. Always take I -695 vice Harbor or Fort McHenery tunnel tolls unless there is a bunch of traffic on I-695.

Just started watching your channel, and its very well done, in regards to pertinent info. I am looking at buying a Class C very soon, and your info is helpful, since i will be considered a rookie, even at my old age, considering i have not owned a camper for about 25 years. I will probably be solo for most trips, since my better half still works for now, and her idea of caming is staying at the Marriott . I fear i am biting off way more than i can chew, but common sense, has not stopped me before :)

We usually aim for 6-8 hours a day when towing the trailer. I've driven from Maine to Florida in two 12 hour days more than once, but never with an RV. My personal road trip record is 4210 miles over six days. That was 26 years ago during One Lap of America, with three drivers taking turns.

As a one person traveler, my only expenses will be fuel. I am converting a school bus into a self contained camper. All the food I will need on a one or two month trip is in the camper. Water is also on board but many times water can be obtained without cost.

Years ago...I'm going to say probably 2006 or 08... my late hubby and I had a boat. It was a 30' cabin cruiser; nice, but not extravagant. It had a 125 gallon fuel tank and dual engines. Yeah, if we got it going, you could almost watch the gas gauges spiral down...we tried never to let the tank drop below half, or it got way too expensive to fill. The boat was too wide to trailer without a special wide-load permit, so we left it docked, which meant patronizing gas docks instead of streetside filling stations. Gas docks are always at least a buck higher per gallon than land-based gas stations. This one time, however, we'd been on a long cruise with a group, and the gas got a bit lower than we'd have liked before we found a gas dock. Well, these are not self-serve places. This particular attendant was a teenaged boy, and about the time we pulled up and he started our fill-up, a couple of "cute young things" on sea-doos pulled up, and he got busy flirting with them. When our tank was full, he looked at the pump, and asked us for $89.00. We paid, and left, and several miles down river, my husband was mulling it over and suddenly realized that the pump was an older model that didn't have 3 spaces to the left of the decimal, and at $99.99, it had zeroed out and begun counting again. So, we paid about half price for our gas because the employee wasn't paying attention to his job. Maybe he got fired for it. We don't know: we were with the group, and didn't go back. Hopefully the kid learned an important lesson.

We are heading to Boise Id for 3 weeks. The start date is 3 -21- 21. Our first trip, [EVER] Starting from Red Bluff, Ca and we are stopping at 6 different places on the way. We will be heading home from Boise on 4-20-21 and that part of the trip is going to be done in one day. 10 hours.

Great video. We are experienced road trippers and all of what you shared is wise and sound advice. We are currently dialing in on our food and refrigerator choices. Saves dollars and time to DYI your food. I like what you said, "We bought a RV Kitchen we should use it". You likely have many experience's to share on this subject. We just bought a vac sealer and love it. So many applications for road trips. Take care.

about the stove my wife has a bad back so I had a junk grill i got the start button off of it and drilled a hole in my stove and put it in and run a wire down to the pilot and hooked up the grill part

Great tips. We use Sunpass to drive our home state when we aren’t exploring the backroads. But we also have an EZPass for northeast states to get through cities and between areas we want to explore. Ours is from New Jersey but you can pick your state. They all work in each other’s state and you don’t have to be a resident. Also to taste local cuisine we buy lunch not dinner. Much cheaper for the same food unless you absolutely must have a dinner special. Keep on laughing!
